Hello! I'm strongly considering a 2026 RAM 1500, Hurricane, 4WD crew cab. I'm coming off an ownership experience that is, let's say, less than stellar for a Hyundai Sonata N-Line Sedan.

What's wrong with the Sonata? It's fast, fuel efficient, looks good, handles well and has a nice, quiet interior with a premium feel. But... it has driver aids that are absolutely intolerable. There is a lane departure/driver alert warning that happens, say, 20-30 times on a long drive and cannot be shut off! Basically, the system alerts if it thinks you are wandering out of the lane, sometimes randomly and often for the tiniest correction of the steering wheel. If you're willing to turn lane assist ON, then it doesn't happen, but otherwise, the car just can't stop itself from telling you what a crappy driver IT thinks YOU are.

The alert is a loud 5 beeps that overrides the radio and cannot be minimized or defeated in any way on 2024 and newer Sonatas. Not good, to say the least.

Before I even consider making another big purchase, can owners of the newer models, especially 2026 since that's the year I'd probably get, advise me of anything similar or, hopefully, the absence or defeatability of such systems on a RAM 1500?

If you want to avoid the nannies, consider buying an older truck.

I have defeated most if not all, on my '21 Warlock, but every year they add more and more.
Plus, they get more challenging to defeat.

The 2025+ Ram trucks use a new electrical architecture known as Atlantis High.
As far as I know, very few have found a method to tweak them with AlfaOBD.

Also, there have been several reported nightmares with this system.
I'm not certain how large the failure rate is compared to the numbers sold, but they can be nasty if you get one. A hard pass for me.

If I were shopping, I would look for a 2019-2021, maybe a '22, gen 4 Classic with a Hemi only. Forget that e-junk add-on.
That's just my preference.

I appreciate the perspective! I despise the electronics in the new trucks but I really, really want the 3.0 Hurricane motor. I love heavy breathing turbos! I can actually live with electronics that work and feel that the Express or Warlock versions will have a minimum, but am worried about something intrusive that ruins the driving experience that can't be turned off- like the Sonata. Hoping people aren't running into this in the newer RAMS.

While I can appreciate your tenacity and drive to own one of these Hurricane marvels, I won't ever give a second thought to owning anything with the Atlantis High electrical system until a few years have passed without hearing of repeated catastrophic critical failures.

And failures that drag on for many months without a solution.

I had a 25 1500 Big Horn with the 300 TT. It rode nice had plenty of power. The electronics are a bit iffy. I had a few issues that made me get rid of it in 11 months.

I did not notice any alerts that bugged me. If you turn off lane departure it stays off.

The biggest thing that bugged me was the EVIP, (dash panel). If you turn on cruise control a big screen pops up saying you turned on cruise control, if you hit the gas to pass some one with it on another screen popped saying CC over riden by driver. There were a few other little things like that. Good thing no annoying beeps.

I had a rental car (Audi) it had blind spot monitoring that would beep at you if some one was in your blind spot. I was on Long Island stuck on the LIE during rush hour. I wanted to find the beeper and stab it to death.

The only one that annoys me on my 23 1500 is when I’m on the outside of 2 lanes turning left. Even with my turn signal on, the truck senses that I’m purposely turning into the side of the vehicle to my left, that is also turning left, and it sounds the impending collision alarms until it begins tp track that the other vehicle is also turning left. It scared the crap out of me the first dozen or so times it happened. I guess the collision alarms can be turned off but I haven’t done so. I haven’t seen any one else complain about this however.

Yeeks, not very promising, to be honest. Appreciate feedback from guys who actually own 2025 or newer trucks. Is that the general consensus around here- that the newer ones just aren't worth the trouble and glitchiness? Is anyone having a great experience?

I'm probably going to have to sit it out as the last thing I want is to trade up for 20k dollars or more and then still be dealing with electrical hassles, mystery module swapping and questionable parts available- all of which I'm starting to see at those links. At least the Sonata works in spite of the idiotic highway alerts.

As I previously mentioned, many owners of '25s & '26s are very happy.

And the odds of getting a dud may be low, but if you do get a problem truck, sometimes the headaches are significant enough to provoke selling it at a loss.

I worked in electronics, communications, and Telecom for several decades and you could call me very particular about my choices for technologically advanced vehicles (anything new in the past 5-7 years).

I wouldn't ever accept an e-Torque truck for free. Call me crazy but I have zero tolerance for technical headaches of this magnitude or the lack of availability to use my truck because of failures or supply chain issues.

Wish I had seen this link before I purchased my 2025 RAM Bighorn, makes me wonder if I made the right decision or if I should have bought something else.

I think the customers are QC for the new electrical architecture as seems to be the way these days, and as always some trucks are better than others. Also as the years go on more and more of the safety nannies become standard equipment so its not going to get better sadly.

Are you having any issues yet or is it pretty well sorted so far?

What is the mileage on your '25 BH?
Have you had any grief so far?

Only time will tell.

I still feel as though I won a lottery with my '21 Warlock.
Bought new in January '22.
One door lock actuator, one clockspring, and a wiring harness for the same.
Gas & oil.

I've been retired for about 12 years, and I only have about 45K miles after about 4.5 years.

i did a nationwide search for 2021-22 non-etorque HEMI/1500 and only found four that were under 30k miles, w/5'7" Bed

My 22 has only 15k miles and is 4WD Crew Cab/Big Horn with the 6'4" Bed = The ONLY One that exists for sale in the entire nation under 20k miles

Bidding starts at $55k

I have a ‘26 big horn hemi.

There is some type of lane-keep assist system, that will keep the truck between the lines even if you dont steer it yourself. I have it shut off and dont use it, so i cant comment on how well it works.

It does have some loud warnings and lights that pop up on the dash if it thinks you are gonna crash into something, but ive only seen it a few times when coming up fast on vehicles that are turning in front of me that i get close to. Turns on real quick and shuts off just as fast.

Have around 14k miles on it so far and not a lick of issues. Absolutely love this truck so far.

I was tempted by a CC with a 6'4" box, but it was just a bit too long to fit in my barn.
I bought a QC with the same size box, not much extra room.

I have pics somewhere.

5'7" to 6'4" is an extra 9"

All my previous trucks had 8' Beds

For my use, that extra room is needful when loading up for a fishing trip, loading firewood and for work.

The Chevy 1500 is 6'6" and the sides are higher.

i absolutely love the 6' 10" Bed on the Chevy 2500 Crew Cab, but i do not need a 2500 - overkill and overpriced gas guzzler

If lots of $$$ comes my way, i would slap the Chevy 6' 10" Bed on my RAM and paint it Chevy Northsky Blue Metallic(2022)

interesting....comparing a Hyundai Sonata N-Line Sedan to a Ram 1500.
My last 3 vehicles were F150 XLT 2.7, Silverado RST w/ 3.0 diesel and now the Sonata. I finally realized I want a truck AND a fast car, and while the 290 HP Sonata has plenty of poke, I am thinking something even sportier. I also have two motorcycles and a car that has a 0 Lb tow rating! Got rid of the diesel when it started throwing codes at 45k.

I’m looking at a 24 Laramie with the 5.7 right now. I think the e-torque is probably ok, but the Atlantas High sounds overly intrusive if not outright glitchy.

I have a ‘26 big horn hemi.

This is great perspective. I don’t mind turning things off and the imminent collision alerts are all right. The particular driver attention warning one in the Sonata is undefeatable (unless you’re willing to leave lane assist ON) and awful- basically a bad joke.
