Going to purchase new tires this week. I'm back and forth between two.

Size: LT265/70/17 10 ply

1st option: I bought the truck used and it came with BF Goodrich Rugged Trial - They have about 4/5 32nd of tread left. They are worn even. I have no clue how many miles are on them. I'm looking at the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain KO2 A/T. Installed Price: $863.00

2nd option: Toyo Open Country A/T II - Installed Price: $716.00
50K mile warranty. Free 45 day or 500 mile test - return free

Both options are 10 ply.

Or, am I overlooking a better tire?

My truck is a 2013 2500 Cummins.

I've been running the Nitto Terra Grappler on my heavy duty's for awhile now, and love them.

I've heard great things about the KO2, I have not heard anything about the Toyo's. Good luck

I had BFG's on a Silverado I had and they seemed to wear fast to me

my bfgk02 lasted about 12,000 miles on me. keep in mind i live at 9400 feet and commute down the hill to 5000 feet. they wore fast, in my opinion. i am happy with my toyos. they seem a little harder. if you run the factory specified air pressure, whatever you run will wear much faster. cheers!

I’m planning on getting Toyo Open Country for my next set. My buddy just went through a set on his Duramax in 40,000 miles with about half of those miles towing over 10,000lbs. Paved and gravel roads.

I’m done with Michelins. They don’t balance worth a **** on my truck, so the ride really sucks.

I’m on my second set of open country on a 2500 ram.

It was the last thing I had on my duramax also after running AT KO2’s for a couple of years. I didn’t mind the BFG’s but my tire shop talked me into switching, saying they had lots of complaints with them recently.

They do seem to wear a little better but I couldn’t tell too much of a difference.

If you don't mind the less aggressive look, check out the Cooper Discoverer AT/3. I've gotten 65-70k out of a set.

I've heard the quick wear of the BFG KO2 on several forum threads. Most say they are way too soft for our heavy trucks.

Tire pressure, as mentioned above, can certainly make a difference with ride quality and excessive wear on the center of tires. Thanks to FCA the rear pressure setting on our trucks is 80 psi. If we all towed heavy loads 100% of the time only using the OEM tire size, then this would almost be acceptable. Luckily for the OP, he has a 2013 which was the last year for the Light Load button. Pushing it drops the rear psi threshold down to 45. To bad some idiots sued Dodge after failing to increase their tire pressure before towing or that button still might be there.

I had the KO 2's on my Wrangler Unlimited, and they were excellent on it. However, have never run them on a heavy duty. Did try a set of Toyo's on my Cummins, and they wore out in record time. My best experience to date has been the Terra Grappler, but I'm thinking of trying the Cooper Discoverer when it is time for a set of tires next time.

I ran coopers on my 2500, fairly priced and performed well.

So far my KO2s have had no excessive wear. But I do rotate them every 4000 miles and I don't constantly have the truck full of weight. The new KM3 looks like a great tire but is a mud terrain. I will probably pick up a set of those next pending some reviews.

Toyo makes great tires but they are HEAVY in 35 and up. This 6.4 is already thirsty enough.

I have the Open Country's on mine, got them fall of 2014, I probably have another year on them. Possibly will look for new ones , late summer 2019. Currently have approx 55k miles plus or minus. Great tire, low road noise, great wear!! I rotate at every oil change.

I am running the AT2 xtreme on mine in a 295/65R20 (35"). I have 20k miles on them and I would estimate they are at 60-70% tread left. I am happy with them so far. Yes they are heavy (I just looked up the spec and they are 63lb each) and my mileage took a dump but I feel safe and confident running them in all conditions.

I have Nitto Ridge Grapplers with about 10k miles so far. I've been pleased with them.

I have 45k on my Ridge Grapplers and they still have a lot of life left in them. I have no complaints so far.

I went with some Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3 in 35x12.5r20. Haven’t had a chance to put them to use yet, but they sure do look great as a decoration in my garage!7c4195b76793eef453b14d80cb27b074.jpg

From a tread life and wear perspective I highly recommend General and highly don't recommend Nitto.

I have Generals on 3 rigs now after I put X3s in 295 65 20 on my 2500.

The General AT2s (now replaced with the new ATX) on my Tundra have 65,000 on them and still solid tread left.

My Nitto Trail Grapplers wore like #2 erasers on my 2500 and the Terra Grapplers I had on my F250 before were the worst tire in the winter I have driven.

Heard good things about Cooper and the BF stuff.

The Nitto Trail Grapplers were the same way on my truck. Only lasted about 25k, but that is to be expected from a mud terrain tire versus an all terrain tire due to the different rubber compounds. The Terra's didn't have enough off road grip for me so I was happy Nitto came out with the Ridge Grapplers about the time my Trail Grapplers were done. I see no issues in getting 65k or more out of them.

And I would also imagine on 1/2 tons etc. the wear is more acceptable etc.

Once I found good success with the Generals I went for them on the 2500. So far the X3's are really nice for me. we will see how long they last.
