Alright I've got a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. It has a K&N cold air intake, Edelbrock ceramic headers, to a catback flow master exhaust system. Recently I swapped the pushrods, new retainers, new valve seals, valve springs for the 6.1 pushrods and valve springs. (Finally snapped a valve spring a few months back) I want to purchase a Comp Cam for the truck. But honestly I don't know which one to choose for what I currently have. And yes I do plan on getting a custom tune for it. Or buying a Diablo Tuner and having a few made. I would like to hear experience from ram owners who have done this cam swap if possible. Thanks in Advance for the help.

Also I don't know if it matters in choosing a cam but I also had the stock heads port and polished when I replaced the top end.

I think the Crazy Jay, Crazy Spartan and Comp Cams 260 are popular with our trucks since they give you increased HP and Torque over the whole power band. If you're wanting to make it more suitable for the track then there are other Cams that give you the biggest bump at the higher rpms. The other things to consider are whether you're planning on adding a higher stall torque converter, gears or changing tire size. My combo works great for daily driving and towing. You could get in touch with Matt at Moe's Performance for some recommendations. What you've done already looks great.

you're running 6.1 pushrods with a stock cam?

I think there are better options than Comp out there, talk to someone about a custom grind. I would personally recommend Jay (in my sig) for your cam and tune.

If you're set on Comp the go either 260 or 268.

What are you expecting out of the truck and how will you use it? Future mods?

Jay

you're running 6.1 pushrods with a stock cam?.

Thankfully lifter preload will take up the slack but yeah your right with the smaller base circle of the stock cam its a no no...

I would say the Crazy Jay Plus if your getting it tuned. I could not find a used Diablo U7137 so I stuck in a Comp 260 to go with the Superchips i have. With a torque converter you can roast the tires on the QC in 2wd. Longtubes and 4.56 gearing even better. When you stick in the cam redo the timing chain set or at the very least a new chain tensioner plate in behind and optional 6.1 oil pump if you can get one but with a low end torque cam there is no need to rev past 6k so stock pump is just fine IMO. Have fun with the Cam. Danny

I agree with danny. You'll want to replace the timing chain and tensioner. Go with the 6.1 set. It's made much sturdier than what is on our trucks.

I also have the Crazy Jay Plus. Needs a custom tune but if you're going to get a custom tune with a cam you might as well get a cam that needs a tune to begin with.

Off the shelf cams are alright but having a custom grind can take you to where you want to go. I did a custom grind from Inertia with my '07 QC that was between a 260 and 268 for the bottom end and it didn't have as low a RPM cutout as those two. It was a better fit for my intended driving style compared to the off-the-shelf cams that are available.

It is a decent cam but has slow ramp rates and low lift. Was able to run 12.8's with it in my QC with a aggressive setup.

But when comparing it to a custom grind for my build the 216 got blown out of the water. When it took a negative DA and cold weather to get a 12.8 my custom grind got me a 12.6 in a 15xx DA and warm weather.

Which is idk 4 tenths gain when DA corrected.

Having the right cam for the job is everything. None of this one size fits all *********...
