Hello,

I have a 2013 Ram 5.7L. I developed a lifter/cam problem so the engine had to be torn down to fix.

I decided to go with upgraded parts since I had to go to all the trouble of breaking the engine down.

Here is what I added:
TSP CHOPacabra Cam
Hell Non-MDS Lifters (replace all)
PAC 1218 Valve Springs (replace all)
Pushrods (replace all)
MDS Block off plugs
Variable Valve Timing Phase Lockout.

While it is torn down also replacing a few parts like water pump and oil pump.

This will be a daily driver

I have purchased the diablo Predator X for the tune.

Does anyone see anything I am failing to consider or might want to reconsider? I just wanted to make the truck a little more fun to drive while I had it apart.

Which Predator-x did you order? Don't see one for your truck listed on the site.

While it's apart, are you considering headers, since it'll be cam'd? The cam will compliment nicely w/ headers.
If not, at least resurface the manifolds to prevent exhaust leaks / busted bolts.

HP Tuners is the way to go.

Also since your tuning it and want more HP. Long tube headers would be a great additional mod. The manifolds and y pipe are very restrictive on these trucks. You will free up good power with them and you will get some added volume to your exhaust note, should help you hear the chop even more!

I don't want to start a pi**'n match here but a lot of guys seem to be down on Diablo tuners, yet last time I checked, most of the fastest Rams had Diablo custom tunes according to the lists I've seen. I realize there are always exceptions so if you have the country's fastest Ram and have an HP tuner my hats off to you!!!

I believe the HP is a superior tuner, BUT for the professionals or astute home mechanics. Being superior and giving the owner the ability to make his own changes presents another problem, and kind of a scary one.
It gives the novice home mechanic the same access to the ECM / TCM pids that the pro tuner has. The novice has a great opportunity to really destroy an engine / transmission with a click of a software button, if he / she doesn't know what they are doing..

User beware.

I say survival of the fittest...if you're dumb enough to go putting your ******-pullers where they don't belong, then be tough enough to suffer the consequences!

I agree. Literally one of the fastest N/A rams is by Matt Fikac at a 10.29 in the 1/4, it alsohas the Diablo I3 and tuned by hemifiver

He has owned, built, and raced most of the fastest Hemi Rams in the country for about the last 10-15 years. They all had a Diablo tuner and were tuned by Hemifever. As the owner of Moe's Performance, he has been a great asset to the Ram performance community.

You're on the moon if you think you're getting the same quality of tune from Powell/Hemifever as Fikac gets. You have to be somebody in the truck world before you get a really good tune from Powell, for the most part you get a basic generic tune based on your mods. There isn't enough hours in a day for the man to spend a $h!tload of time on everybodies individual tune,no matter what Jay says, right Jay ;)
