Those are your compatibility brackets. They're there to keep you from rolling over a small car if you RAM it from behind... :happy175:

But not kidding, that's what they are... I see that they've fallen off, like many others have...

What is the benefit of removing them? They aren't in the way of anything as far as I can tell?

If you rear end someone and they get hurt or worse and an investigation is done and yours are missing, I personally would not want to have to explain to a judge and jury why I removed them.

But that's just me. My truck is on road only. Maybe they get hung up on items off road?

mine is on road only as well and lifted. at the height it sits, they may pose more of a danger.

there is enough room on the mounting holes to pivot them at an angle as i did when i put on my new bumper, otherwise they would be exposed below the bumpers bottom edge looking kind of stupid. So, yes they are still there and should do as they are intended to do

HHmmm...I did not know that. Are they on the 3500s? I will go look. Where are they mounted?

Or is this an internet hoax? Never needed to do much on my trucks once I started buying trucks under 20k miles.

I have them on my Power Wagon as well. I was thinking they were for maybe for an aftermarket option such as a plow or brush guard. I thought I also read somewhere they were used when was being assembled on the line.

as said above these a brackets to make the truck road legal. Because because trucks are now so tall, if you ever rear ended someone in a car, you could drive straight over the trunk, and crush the passenger compartment.

These brackets are fitted, so if that happens. These things will dig into the car, and stop the truck from killing everyone.

Same reason you see 18 wheeler trailers with those massive square tube brackets on the back. its so if you rear end them, you wont go straight under, and scalp yourself.

I actually find it funny because there is one vehicle that doesnt have to abide by these rules for some reason, and it is a vehicle that absolutely needs them, and that is the Yellow school bus!

it depends on how technical the insurance would look at it.

If you got into an accident, crushed the passenger compartment of a car, and killed a family..... Then yeah, the insurance might really look into that, discover you had removed a factory installed (Effectively safety device), and ream you big time.

With that said, i think quite a few people remove them. whether for looks, or weight savings (Whatever that means on a truck) lol.

You would be surprised man. Also, I'm pretty sure that the factory tow hooks bolt to them, or a snow plow.

I have them on my 16 power wagon and mounted a peice of angle iron on them across to protect the steering disconnect when off road, i think they were for a snow plow connect point, but not sure...
