So I did a lot of searching and I cannot seem to find a answer; can I program the truck to have the cargo light go on when I put the truck in reverse? I am extremely afraid to splice into wires because of the canbus system. Has anyone done this?

Ok I ask the "elephant in the room" question... Why would you want the cargo light on in reverse?

Yeah, let’s start with why you want to do this so that we can show you a better way to accomplish what you’re trying to do.

Get more light while in reverse... I upgraded the led tails and the cargo lights with leds, but wanted more light.

If you want more light while in reverse, the cargo light isn't the greatest. Mount a set of LED pods either through the bumper or under the truck. Use a CURT 56584 harness to tap the 7 pin for the reverse lights power(one of the pins turns on in reverse). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007EA6WQU/
For mounting LED pods under the truck, one member on here used the AKD Part 2pcs 2.5 inch LED Light Bar Mounting Bracket https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PS1VDB/
He clamped them to the trailer receiver bars under the truck.

Love the idea good luck man.. it might be as simple as bridging two fuses in the fuse box

It’s not going to work out as well as you’d hope. The bed light will cast a shadow behind the bed making it extremely difficult for the camera to pick up obstacles you’re hoping to see.

Do what others have recommended and mount lights in, on or under the bumper as your lighting field of view will be much better.

If you look under the truck at the support bars for the receiver, those brackets I linked clamp to that. The LED pods bolt to those, no bumper cutting.
The pods you cut into the bumper don't need those brackets.

You could do pods like posted above or a tailgate led light bar with reverse connected with the curt harness posted above.
This is a Opt-7 tailgate lightbar that was on my old truck with led reverse bulbs and I have the same OPT-7 lightbar on my 19 classic

I did something very similar using a pair of stainless steel u-bolt clamps and a couple of pieces of steel bar stock. If I'd seen those for that price, I probably would have used them though.

I have the Putco switchblade taillight Bar, 4 4x4 LED pods installed in bumper and LED reverse bulbs with back camera. I need the camera as I’m Up roughly 13” in total with my lift and tires. Can’t see anything without it. The rear is almost brighter than my fronts.
