Hey everyone! New to the forums. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi and 109k miles. I just got true dual exhaust w/ 40 series Flowmaster and Hedman longitude headers. The stock cats are still on. MY truck keeps throwing P0420 and P2096 codes since getting this exhaust. The shop really did a awful job of installing this setup. They spliced the O2 sensors to extend them to fit and didn't even bolt the the flange on the headers and cats. I fixed all of this with NTK sensors, both upstream and downstream, with BBK wire extensions. Everything is bolted up nice and tight. I can not get these codes to go away. What else could be throwing these codes? I am overdue for a tag, so this truck has to get fixed soon. Should the cats be replaced with high flow cats? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you had it tuned? It's not a 68 road runner, you can't just blow open the exhaust and expect It to make gains and run perfect. It's efi. Make a big change, tune accordingly. If you haven't, that's where I would start. Not only is it better for your trucks health but it will make the most of your mods.

How did you keep the stock cats? They are in the downpipes that bolt to the manifold. Don't long tube headers replace those? Do you have any pics?

Normally people who install long tube headers, install cats (new) in the pipes coming off the headers, whether it be straight pipes, or a Y pipe, as close to the headers as possible. This is if they retain cats due to inspection requirements, and or state laws.

Did you already clear them once after the fixes were done?

The truck is not tuned, but it has a Bullydog Tuner on it. It was set to performance mode, but we decided to put it back to stock settings and see if it made a difference. The cats are on right after the headers and exhaust pipe meet. Any fix we did, the codes were cleared and we drove the truck around again. We even tried doing a reset by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery. CEL still comes on. Do you think we should replace the cats or do something with the computer? Will the dodge dealer diagnose this issue for us, or bring it to another shop? I do not have any pics at the moment. Living in Georgia, so don't really know what their stand is on cats. I don't think they are too strict on emissions.

I've found that when trying to diagnose a problem by yourself you often times throw good money after bad by replacing parts without knowing for sure if that's going to fix it or not and still don't know what the problem is. Save yourself the headaches and take it to the dealer and pay the hour diagnostic time, then you'll know for sure. Trust me, been there done that! It's just not worth it.

I think we are gonna take it to the dealer as soon as we get time to do it. Thanks for all the answers everyone. Hopefully we can get this figured out.
