check engine light

My check engine light just came on and I pulled the code P1740. What does this code mean? Can I fix it in my yard or does it need to be professionally done?

All I know is that it has something to do with the tcc or O/D

P1740:
TCC or OD Solenoid Performance - A rationality error has been detected in either the TCC solenoid or overdrive solenoid systems.


aka, the governor solenoid is likely on its way out from what I remember. Yes, it can be replaced in your driveway, it just requires dropping the pan and valve body.

I had a diagnostics test done today the guy said i need a new transmission...could he be tryen to scam me? He told me he checked out the TCC but not the O/D soleniod and the hesitation isn't bad at all when it does hesitates. And when it does all I do is give it more gas and it stops.

I have the same code (some of ya know) and it only rarely acts up (when its cold, this morning was -20F, truck did't like that). stolen from rambob is this list of causes

Camshaft DTC Present -I'm good there
Engine RPM DTC present -I'm good there
Fuel level low -I'm good there
Misfire DTC present -I'm good there
Output speed DTC present -I'm good there
P1765 DTC present -I'm good there
Park/neutral DTC present -I'm good there
PTO engaged (if equipped) -I'm good there
Torque converter clutch DTC present -I'm good there
TPS DTC present -I'm good there
Transfer case in low range (if equipped) -I'm good there
Transmission relay DTC present -I'm good there
Transmission temperature too cold -I'm good there
Intermittent
Check transmission fluid-debris -I'm good there
Check transmission fluid-stall -I'm good there
3-4 shift solenoid
Oil pan contains excessive debris -I'm good there
Shaft or seal damage
TCC solenoid
Torque converter

I'm just going to keep driving it until it kills itself (highschool budget), then I'll fix as needed if have the cash or sell it
