I just changed my oil at 2,517 miles. When I put in 7.5 quarts of oil, the gauge comes to 1 bar below the max bar. The manual stated this is oil OK level. It seems weird to not have the gauge show up to the max bar. Is this normal to be at 1 bar below max? Is the next bar for slightly over filling?

Yes that is normal and I agree that gauge is kind of confusing.
At least it's easier and cleaner to remove the oil filter than the 5.7.

Did you reset the gauge? It’s in the owners manual. Warm the engine up, park it on a level surface, shut engine off and then ignition to run without starting engine, let truck sit for 4 minutes in run mode. This will reset gauge. Mine came from the factory showing 1 bar below max, changed the oil 7.5qts exactly, gauge still showed 1 bar below max, followed procedure to reset gauge, oil gauge now shows max. Page 356 of owner’s manual.

Holy s_h-it!!!!

What a freakin' procedure to reset the oil level gauge!

Not trying to hijack your comment or this thread... but I'll take a dipstick and a messy oil filter change any day of the week over this ;)

Apologies, Brothers!!!!!!
(call me flabbergasted!!!!)

AMEN TO THIS, BROTHER!
Makes sense to me, the Nanny Boo Boo world of 2025, lmao. Kinda same as resetting the Oil Life Indicator on a pre 2025 Ram 1500 truck, just not as many steps.

It is so stupid you have to reset it. It is a sensor. It should freaking sense!
I know right?! That whole page 356 of the owners manual is an interesting read, about how and when it monitors the oil level. Some engineers must have been hanging out with Snoop Dog when they thought that one up.

Mine was at the 10 O'Clock position when I got it. Seemed a little low, so I added a quart. Two days later, I get this scary message on the dash that it is overfilled, and I need to take it to the dealer. Oil gauge shows red. I drained a quart or so out and put the plug back. After a couple of days it was still showing high. I found and followed the reset procedure, and it went to pointing straight up. Left it there.

Today, at 1200 miles, I changed the oil. It was SO MUCH EASIER than my Hemi to change the filter. Plenty of space around it, nothing underneath. No oil on me, none on the ground for a change. Added 7.5 quarts, warmed it up, and did the reset process above. Now it points to 2 O'Clock, just below max, so I'm good to the next oil change.

I am really liking this truck. The engine is amazingly quiet and powerful. Very smooth. When the autostop shuts it down, the only way I can really tell is by watching the tach. The restart is smoother than anything I have driven, including the eTorque Ram that I test drove before I bought this SST.

Does anyone know how the engine restarts? Are they using the starter, or something else?
