Ok, so this is my first motor with no dip stick. I tend to always have my engines to the full mark. I added half a quart then did the 5 min in run only reset procedure I found on here and no change. I added another 1/2 qt and did the procedure and still no change. So I drained the oil and added back only 7.5 qts. No change to the stated oil level. Dealership says I have to have it reset manually at the dealership…what gives? Any one have any ideas why the procedure didn’t work? FYI- no true owners manual came with the truck. Only a thin owners handbook.

Why not download the owners manual off of the Ram web site????

It will not reach a 'max' mark unless you over fill it. When you reset it, it should read as the image below (to reset go to page 118 of the manual)

I don’t know that’s actually a fact my friend. I have my oil done at a dealer, they are trustworthy and honest. Having had two oil changes, each time, by the way now even after 3 k miles, my level shows Max.
They take it in, fill it reset level gauge bring it out, show me and I’m away.
So unless dealer is overfilling, which I highly doubt, yours is either low or not resetting correctly. So I don’t get a load of flack and get shot down in flames, this is just what I believe to be true.
Thanking you!

I'd worry about that. If it says Max, they probably put 8qts in and overfilled it.

Not surprised it still reads max, it isn't going down unless you burn it or lose it. I've done mine 3 times, always the same with 7.5qts.

Here found this on another Ram board: https://images-stag.jazelc.com/uplo...en-Shot-2024-06-26-at-2.40.37-PM-1024x640.png

"They take it in, fill it reset level gauge bring it out, show me and I’m away."

That's the thing. . .they shouldn't be resetting the oil LEVEL GAUGE at the time of every oil change--the only time that should be reset is if it's reading incorrectly. If the oil level is verified (by putting in exactly 7.5 qts. of oil) and it's still reading incorrectly, then you should go through the published process of recalibrating it, which should result in it reading correctly (not in the red / high zone of the gauge).

They SHOULD be resetting the OIL LIFE MONITOR gauge at every oil change.
