Hello everyone,

Down here in Florida, and looking to get my first full size truck.
Of course I'm interested in the beast of a Ram.

Well I'm going to ask a question that I'm sure has been asked before, but when I search for it, I get lost in 50 threads about nothing.

So here goes.... I'm looking at picking up the 2014 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi. I'd like to know if there are any chips, computers, etc that will help with the MPG on the truck.

What are the options out on the marketplace, and maybe some pro's and con's to them.

I do mostly city driving, and don't really need the power all the time. So saving on gas is important for me.

Thank you all in advance for your help, and direction.

My advice, look into the 3.6 V6, will save you money, save you gas, still plenty fast.

Personally I would go the Hemi route, more because from what I've read, the fuel savings do not out way the cost very much, and you might be happier with it. Best thing to do is to test drive both and see what you like.

I'm getting ~19 highway and ~15 city but it is very hilly out here in Phoenix, so in Florida you should do better since everything is flat. Pretty good mileage if you ask me for a 5.7L engine. Plus the Hemi has 4 cylinder deactivation which can help with mileage as well.

The most popular tuners on this forum are going to be the Bully Dog Hemi Plus tuner or the Diablo Sport Trinity/Intune tuners. Both have fuel saving tunes from what I understand. Hope this helps...

If you dont need to pull over 5000 pounds the V6 will get better mileage hands down. Some people seem to get excellent mileage with their hemi trucks, I didn't get that lucky, winter has decreased my 15 to 16 mpg's from summer to 12 to 13 mpg's. This is with mostly highway driving. I bought the hemi reading thread after thread of people getting 20 to 22 mpg's on the highway with theirs. That definitely isn't the case with mine at least.
If you want a true answer matt from moes performance will chime in here I'm sure, he will be able to get you whatever you need for a excellent price.

Be sure and look at the EcoDiesel. Very good mileage from that one. There are also plenty of happy people with the PentaStar 8-speed combo, who are very happy with the mileage and driveability.

Its a truck... uts going to get **** gas mileage. I get around 20 on flat road driving with a light foot with tge hemi. Look at the ecodisel ir a car if its that big of a concern. Dont forget a tuner is going to run you over 500 bucks, wich may not be worth the gas "savings"

My V6 gets 25 right now highway and it has under 1000 miles on it, and I see about 21 city depending on where I'm driving around at, half my work is a 25 zone and that kills me. Which I wouldn't call that **** on mileage, its no prius but its not far off a lot of cars.

I'm in south Florida as well (Miami) and I get about 13 mpg driving moderately in the city. With an intake, tuner and exhaust you could probably squeeze out an extra 2 mpg but at the end of the day it's a truck not a Prius so you can't expect good gas mileage.

Crap.

The problem is everything in Florida is so spread out. So it's five miles just to the grocery store.

But that Hemi sure sounds nice.

I had a tuner, 14" Magnaflow, S&B intake and an 85mm ported throttle body on my 09 and saw maybe a 3mpg increase in fuel mileage. That was only on the highway. My mileage went up in the city because I couldn't keep my foot off the gas! ;) But the truth of it is nothing will really give you a significant increase in mileage. Its a 6000lb truck! Lol

On my 2011, I saw about a .5mpg increase from the intake and throttle body. The tuner gave me a solid 2mpg though which is nice. I could really care less about my mileage, but its a win/win when you can add power and mileage at the same time.

I sure hope I get the same win/win scenario when I add the mods. Got the UD pulley now so that's got to help too. I'm one of the lucky ones that gets great mileage just like the truck sits.

Mine has 200 miles on it, and I'm averaging 17.8 right now. I don't know if I should be believing this right now or what.

For starters, as others have stated, it's a truck and your mileage will suck.
The factory gauge is incorrect on most rams from what I've read. If it says 15, your getting around 13. YMMV always applies though.
IMHO you either want mileage with weak performance (v6) or you want poor mileage with performance (hemi). Both subjects are a matter of a slight change from motor to motor. The v6 is no slouch and the hemi isn't totally horrible mileage.
I own the Hemi and never wish I had gotten v6 due to mileage.

This was on a trip to the Smokey Mountains late last summer and I got almost 23mpg! 2012 Hemi with 3.55 rear, S&B intake, and Mufflex exhaust kit.uploadfromtaptalk1396792653190.jpg

My 2012 gets about 20 mpg now at 70 mph. CAI, Catch Can and tuner, (Bully Dog) will all help with your mileage.
