Just recently purchased my 2013 Ram 1500 Crew Cab. I've decided on the brand of subs I wanna use, Alpine Type R. I have a couple of questions. Will 2 12s sound too "brassy" or will they sound clean. Thought about the 10s but I like the thump. I'm more of sound quality than knock, but who don't love some bass rattle. Second question, what is the difference between 2/4ohm. How much difference does it make

As far as door speakers, I was planning on going 3 1/2 in the dash, and 6x9s in the door. Good direction or not? Also thought about sticking with Alpine for the component speakers.

I recently came across this thread here

http://www.ramforum.com/f51/alpine_kenwood_stereo_install-31481/

And copied his choice of speakers, love the 7 inch Kenwoods!

When you go from having your tweets fire into the windshield, to having them in the mirror cap, the difference is night and day.

I mounted the fronts as pictured in the thread I linked, I opted for these Amazon.com: Kenwood KFC-X183C eXcelon 7-Inch Oversized Custom Fit 2-way Speaker System: Car Electronics in the rear, as I didn't see enough gain to put a hole in the door panel, to raise the tweeter up a few inches.

The only thing I wish I would have done was get a bigger amp for my Type R's. My next upgrade will be to the Alpine MRX-M240. These subs are super hungry but they sound soooo nice. I listen to everything from Megadeth, to hip hop/R&B, to some good old Michael Jackson.

G Altima that was an awesome post. when you wanna use your subs, do you always flip the back seat up? have you ever had the subs on when the seat was down? I like the amp knob as well. all around bad ass install

I listen to it both ways. I was hesitant at first to put the back seat down but it still sounds good and doesn't seem to harm the subs at all. The grills I have are made for the type R's so there's no problem with the seat down. As far as the bass knob goes, it doesn't work as nice as I thought it would. It's either off or on. No in between. It it's nice though when I see the occasional cop to quick shut the bass off.

Ever have a backseat full of people? I haven't yet with the 13 but my 07 sounded better with the back seat loaded!?

As far as the 2 ohm vs. 4 ohm question, it all depends on what amplifier you're going to run. The type R's are either dual 2 or 4 ohms. If you're going to run a single monoblock amp to run both woofers, than you want the dual 2 ohm model. You end up wiring both voice coils on the sub to each other in series to bring the impedance to 4 ohms. Then you wire each sub to each other in parallel to bring the load back down to 2 ohms. This will give you the most power from your amplifier. My amp pushes 550 watts at 4 ohms but 1100 at 2 ohms. Double the power by going to the lower impedance.

yea the back seat was a big deciding factor. so the guards are recommended then..cool. thanks a lot for the input. so even with someone in the back seat you crank it up. do you notice any sound difference between seat up and seat down.

Reason being truck full creates less un occupied air space. thus allowing the subs to pressurize the cabin more, this making it sound better. its same theory that goes into designing ported sub boxes, and subbox volumes for different subs.
I have 2-10's in my Ram and had 4-12's in my old Saturn ION and the ram is clearer than the ION, but the ION had more DB. 154.7 was my highest in competition.

Makes sense! Nice job on the Ion! 154.7 is VERY respectable... I got 2 12's in my RAM now. Crystal clear and hits hard... especially since the factory 8.4a is driving the system!

I listen to 80's hair band stuff and a pair of 10's with door speakers and dash speakers all in stock positions sounds damn good..I sometimes leave my back seat up and sometimes down but it seems slightly more muffled when i toss a furniture pad over a closed seat..
