I just bought another Ram 1500 and was one of the last people to get in on the lifetime maxcare. I had read in a few places where Chrysler had denied service from the lifetime warranty due to things like aftermarket oil filters and such. I was looking on the mopar website and saw where they offered prepaid oil changes, so I called to see if I could get more info.

I asked for a maintenance contract that covered all required maintenance for at least 10 years. I was quoted a price that was more than what I paid for the lifetime warranty. Looking at the manual, there doesn't appear to be much to do besides oil changes, inspections, and air filters. Online, 2 years (4 oil changes) is only $115. I can't imagine that the few air filters and inspections would make a several thousand dollar difference.

Does anyone have experience with these plans? I asked the sales guy if he could email me more info on it, but he just said it covers whatever maintenance that is required in the manual.

Assuming they’re going off the maintenance chart in the owners manual, you’re looking at (about)- 5 cabin air filters, 3 engine air filters, a spark plug change, an engine coolant flush and change, a transfer case fluid change (if 4x4), 10 oil changes (at least), 1-2 axle fluid changes, a pcv valve change, all the required inspections/ tire rotations, shop supply fees, rag disposal fees, and all the labor that goes with it. Most of these don’t occur at the same interval, so you got multiple visits which equals more labor time. I would guess, off the cuff, ~4-6 grand wouldn’t be too far fetched as far as dealer pricing goes.

That's ridiculous, save your time and money and just do oil changes at your local reputable shop. As long as you have proof of required oil changes and maintenance, you should be fine.

Trust me you don't want to go see dealer for no reason unless it's covered by the warranty

Maintenance plans and extend warranties are all a huge rip off. They’re a big money maker for the dealerships and the bottom feeders that originate them.

Put your money in savings, or invest it. On average you’re money ahead

Now someone will chime in and say how it paid off for them. Good. They beat the odds. It’s like bragging about winning at the casino. They’ll get you next time.

The warranties are a rip off ? Not with all the electronics electronics these days. Really depends on how long you keep your truck.

^^Fully agree. It is in fact a risk bet. Waste of money for people who turn their vehicles every 3-5 years or at 80-90k miles. For those that keep their vehicles for 5+ years and put 200-300k miles on them, it is an insurance policy that often pays off after 1 or 2 significant repairs. One size does not fit all.

I purchased the 10 year 100k mile Plus plan thinking I had to do oil changes every 5k miles. The Plus plan allows for oil changes every 5k miles. It wasn't till about 6 months later that I realized my truck only requires oil changes every 10k miles, with normal use.. I'm literally changing my oil with 50% life left just to get my monies worth.. Had I known I would have just purchased the standard 10/100 plan to save a few hundred bucks. Anyhoot, after pricing out the plan vs. cash out of pocket you end up saving about 20% with the plan. Also, verify with your dealer if they will honor the plan to replace your spark plugs at 100k miles. Not all dealers honor the plan for plug changes. Mine does otherwise I would have not purchased the plan. My service advisor said he would have to submit the request to replace plugs at 90k miles in order for the plan to cover it.

depends on how many miles a year, etc. you use it. I have bought 7 year 75K mile plans as they sort of hit center time and miles for me. One truck I actually bought continuing 5year/75K miles plans for a 15 year period and the over all cost was less than what the cost of the lifetime plan would have been to begin with. So the answer really is how long do you plan to keep it ( and historically how long do you keep them), what kind of miles and what kind of use. Good luck
