I've been hearing people do this, has anybody done this to there ride? I heard the Dana 60 is the tank of rears and can really handle an beating is this true? Also is there an Dana 60 front axle? I'd love to have "tank tough axles" and if anyone has done it can you possibly give some insight as in do I need to move the shock mounts to fit? And is this an project worth taking on?

D60 is awesome, but heavy. Do you have a 1500? if so, you would want to do a solid axle swap in the front, as our front ends are independent front suspensions.

Do you offroad your truck? If not, it might be overkill.

Yeah I have an 05 1500,and yes I frequent off road and why solid axle? I feel like the independent front would help it on the trails.

D60 front axle is a solid axle. You would need a different axle, or a ton of custom work to make a IFS 60.

I have never researched wheeling my truck, I was big into a jeep I had... I would look into alloy rear axle shafts before doing an axle swap. If you do a 60, you will need different wheels (different bolt pattern).

I'm doing this right now to my truck. Though I'm only doing it cause my rear went bad and this was the best replacement.

I can't say its a very common swap though.

You'll have to change your rear brakes as well as re gear your front unless you're already running 4.10s or 4.56s in your fronts (this is only if you are 4x4).

You'll also need to have a custom drive shaft built. The Dana 60 requires a shorter driveshaft.

I'm sure there's some other stuff I'm missing. I'm still learning this as its happening.

Overall you're looking at quite an expensive swap just for the rear.

I was thinking of trying to find them in junk yards, clean them up inspect the gears and slap on some new bearings. Are you doing all this yourself or having an shop do it for you?

I'm having a shop do it. I was having a noise and took it in to get fixed. It turned out to be waaaaaaay worse than we thought so we had to scrap the rear and look for a new one.

I'm curious as to why you want to swap to a Dana 60?

A lot of people around where I live are swapping to them, and there proving there selfs very well in our local mud holes and off-road trails. I had to pull the spider gears in my front becouse I cracked the case. So I was gonna swap the front and then swap the rear so I'll have matching axles
