Hey guys,

First if this doesn't belong here, can a mod move it please?

I have a 2017 ram 1500 sport all stock, 30k miles. I've been hearing a clanking sound from the rear of the truck. Only noticed it recently since I've been putting the windows down. The first time I heard it I thought I was dragging something, kinda sounded like dragging cans.

It doesn't get louder when I speed up because I only hear it at low speeds. Also thought I had a sticky caliper because it sounded like the brakes were engaged when I was driving near walls/fences but it went away.

Over certain bumps I will hear metal on metal as well. Sorry it's kinda hard to explain but looking for ideas on what to check. I'm thinking maybe the parking brake. Anyone have any ideas or is there any known issues that I should know about?

Thanks,
Paul

Dont suppose you have a ball hitch. Or anything in the hitch receiver do you?

When I left my ball hitch in there is would rattle like crazy over bumps

That's what I thought it was so I took it out. Just happened again on the way home. Happens at less than 5mph on smooth road. But will hear something similar on bumps. Only when I'm rolling not when stopped

Check your spare tire winch is holding it in tight.

Jack it up. Check the wheels. Maybe bad bearing.

Thanks for the replies. Will check out your ideas tomorrow. Haven't heard the noise in 2 days. It's impossible to recreate so been trying to narrow it down to take to the dealer since it's under warranty. I did notice the parking brake cable is sagging so maybe that is part of the issue.

That hot damn guy did a YouTube video about kore rear control arms. Said the factory control arm bushings go bad, and make a clanking noise. Check to see if they have a lot of play when you jack it up.

May want to check all those heat shields and see if any wobble. they can cause a high pitched kind of rattling.
Drove me crazy chasing it down on a friends car.
