I wash under the hood 3 to 4 times a year so nothing gets built up under there, I just go to the local car wash pop the hood and spray it diwn with soap and then rinse.

Been doing this for years and never a problem.

If its real dirty and grimmy Simple green works well, if its super bad I use Castrol Super clean at full strength it will take off thick grease and grime but be warned at full strength it will eat paint if left on for any length of time.

Simple Green works wonders and is non-toxic. Spray it all down with that stuff, let it soak for a minute and hose it off. Just be careful of how much water you spray on the alternator.

I would also caution you to let the engine cool some before hitting it with the water.

Do I need to worry about the battery or alternator? Obviously my cai I need to cover.

Try to blow it off--if not use some simple green, let it sit for a few minutes then wash off--be careful of alternator and/or any exposed wiring--then blow off and wipe down with a dry towel. I wouldn't use a pressure washer. After it's dry you could give this stuff a try.

If you like when your done, you can wax under the hood around the edges of the hood and around the edges of the fenders

You may want to disregard this post. I am OC about my engine compartments. Once a month I use Windex commercial to clean the dust. Once a year I use Simple Green on the block and suspension to clean road grime.

I just dont spray it at the alternator and I dont get right up up the motor either no reason to blast it if you no what I mean :) , like I said I have never had a issue doing this and a few times a year keeps anything from building up and getting all caked on.

All the wires and connectors are weather pack connectors waters not going to hurt it , well so long its not under water..lol

I saw the recommendation by Boosted2k (I think that's his name on YouTube) to use a grocery bag to cover the alternator, just out of an over abundance of caution.

Yes, my procedure is as follows ...
Cool to cold engine, spray any and all electrical connectors you can see with WD40
Wrap any open element air filters
Spray foamy engine cleaner and let soak on heavy deposits try to avoid all polished aluminum if possible
Use power washer to remove all dirt try not to direct spray connectors or filter
Let dry or wipe down...
Here is the trick to a new car or show car engine bay..... foamy tire dressing, I prefer Mequiar's Hot Shine tire coating. Then after 10 minutes or so wipe off all excess and your done.
After that you will only need to hit it with the foam tire dressing as long as you don't go missing .... lol

I use aluminum foil over the plastic bag trick. It locks it down really well. Here’s latest wash. Ignore the cowl, I am replacing that old piece of plastic!

I use all purpose cleaner (Adams) but any will do. I use brushes to get in nooks and crannies. Hose it off, start the engine, let her dry. Then I dress the plastic and hoses with Adams VRT.

As I posted in another thread, I take a garden sprayer with Dawn, soak down the entire engine bay and let it sit, soak it down a couple more times... Then just rinse it with a pinpoint water nozzle and the water turned up to stun... I just spray the crap outta it (so to speak)... The only thing I don't (directly) spray is the alternator, fuse box, and batteries... I don't worry if they get a little overspray, just don't hammer them with water... If there is a real problem spot, I'll hit it with Gunk engine cleaner and a brush. Let everything dry out for a half hour or so and drive 'er on off... Have been doing that to all of my vehicles for years, I have never had a problem with CEL's, starting, stalling, or any thing else...

When you are driving your truck in the rain, the engine compartment gets wet. When you hit a large puddle, the engine compartment gets wet. Prolonged exposure to lots of water can/will cause problems... A good wash down shouldn't...
