Hi all. I just bought an 05 Ram 1500 4x4. It has the 5.7 in it. I noticed when taking off from a dead stop, every once in a while ill get a "clunk" that occurs about a couple seconds after the truck gets moving. If feels like something is loose and shifting position. Feels like its coming from the back of the truck but not 100% sure. I checked all motor and trans mounts they seem good. Everything on the rear end seems tight. Anyone come across this or have any ideas?

Welcome to the forum! Have you checked the u joints? All I can think of if everything else seemed tight. I'm sure someone else will chime in as well.

Maybe the pinion nut in your rear differential.

If you are mechanically inclined at all get under there and shake things around. If the clunk is loud and happens every time you will probably discover something.

It wasn't my truck but someone I knew had a car that would clunk after takeoff. They had about everything looked at and nobody could find anything.

It ended up being a tool (a socket I think but barely remember) that someone had left inside the door shell during a previous repair. So if you don't find anything obvious think outside the box.

One big clunking pop sound and then everything is OK that's what I experience on the drivers side in the front

Might be sway bar links, seems like I had a similar issue in my Explore or Honda Passport years ago.

I checked everything on the rear end and all seems tight. Def seems like its coming from the rear end. The sales man I bought the truck from says they did the pinion nut recall the day before I bought it.
