First, filter and fluid change, that is a common code on Rams, usually it signals the transmission is going bad, but sometimes it can just be a loose connection or really bad oil/low oil pressure.

A fluid and filter change will also allow you to see up in there to see if there is a bunch of sludge everywhere.

That is where I would start. Do you have Overdrive? and does the O/D switch work?

Other than faulty electronics in the trans, not offhand. I can rebuild them (given a lot of time), but diagnosis is quite complicated without actually looking at it myself. Even then it took me a month to figure out what was wrong with my buddies chevy trans, with the service manual.

P1740 is thrown when the pcm doesn't detect tq converter lockup. If you haven't noticed any difference in drivability, what the problem LIKELY is is your lockup is weak. I myself have been rolling around with the same code for 5 years now and my truck gets beat to hell. Lockup is virtually undetectable in my truck but it does do it. Pcm simply isn't recognizing it and throws the code. Weak/failing tq converter is the culprit in my case and likely the case in yours IF you're not recognizing any drivability differences. It's also possible that it's an electrical issue like broken wire or other sensor on the 5v system failing can throw this.
