Since I will be getting a greene tune soon, are cold air intakes wofth buying for HP gains? Anyone have any dyno numbers? I have heard the factory design is good, and just replacing the stock filter with a better flowing one is the best route. Lets hear your thoughts.

I wish you could kust buy the tube that connects the air box tobthe throttle body.
Then I would do a drop in filter and do the diy fresh air scope like I did on my Cummins.

Or get a Vararam.

Think Jay recommends the Fastman ported TB over aftermarket CAI......give him a shout.

I run a s&b intake but the factory is pretty well setup if you use a drop in filter. I changed mine for the looks and the fact that I may do cam and headers down the road and figured it’ll help with those mods
Edit: can someone share the post about the intake box mod with the dryer tube

If I cant find a tube, i might fab one out of thin steel tube. Tig weld it cone style.

Not sure anyone makes one but they should it would be a easy sell since the newer airboxes flow well enough for most engines.

I opted for an aFe Momentum & held off on buying until after the Outlaw cat back & Pulsar. Very pleased w/ how it complimented the other mods, noticeable improvement throughout the curve. c55c3a21a9b1f22a3cc748b9837c105d.jpg

I was VERY happy with my oem box, aem drop in filter and 3"add a tube. Lots of pull with pedal comm, pulsar and fastman tb.
I swapped to a S&B, man what a difference!! monster filter(makes WAY more noise at wot than oem with add ons) wont stop pulling on top end. Excellently made, stout and solid

S&B looks almost identical to the stock housing in your pics. They just used a smooth plastic plastic pipe, verse the ribbed poor flowing stock tube. Looks like that is the only difference. Its gonna be a while, but I think I am going to just tig weld a cone stainless steel thin wall tube to connect from the TB to the airbox.
Thank you for posting both of those pics!

I keep hearing the vararam is the best. IMO it looks the best but does it really have an advantage I do mostly highway driving 120mi a day.

It's pretty unanimous that its at least very near the top in terms of best options for the 5.7

in order to see gains from a CAI you have to tune your vehicle. the added air density from a CAI gets tuned out when the PCM starts adjusting fuel tables. that's ANY CAI you get. once you get a tune that can actually do something with the added air volume/temp, thats when you see the vararam shine. i really like mine, flows great and IAT's are lower than stock by a decent bit.

People say that there’s nothing like this for the 6.4 BTE( big truck engine) because the throttle body is at an angle towards the passenger side. I think an angle tube is all that would be needed in order to make it work.
