Cold Air Intake

New here, 1st post other than introduction. Also new to HD pickups, just bought a 2024 2500 with the 6.7L L6. I’m not going to do this any time soon, at least not until the air filter need’s replacing. I’ve seen actual performance increases on gas half-ton trucks with the addition of a cold air intake, so wondering if the same is true for larger trucks with a diesel engine. I read other posts that said what’s in these trucks is as good or better than after market, but thought I’d ask my question anyway.

As said above, most intakes now, whether gas or diesel, flow as good or better than anything aftermarket. Most aftermarket intakes only gain you noise, they don't improve flow much if at all.

Buy it...The scam artist better known as Gail Banks needs your money. While you're at it, buy the Pedal Commander so your butt dyno can convince you you're making more power. Seriously...The factory air filter housing will flow more air than the engine can pump. Leave it alone.

I'll reiterate, complete waste of money. The stock system is a cold air intake, flows more then enough air to support up to around 600hp and filters better.
Not to mention replacing the intake and/or filter with anything other then a genuine Mopar filter is likely to throw codes on the 19+ trucks

Screw the intake for performance, especially since you have a diesel?
With the right tune you can easily get 100-150 real HP gain!

After having an S&B CAI installed, I agree it honestly hasn't given me any real noticeable improvement... and that's with doing a Flowmaster muffler replacement and a Flowmaster axle back kit which deletes the two resonators at the rear and gave me black tips. What I do have is a huge air filter that sets in a box with a clear plexiglass top that allows me to see the condition of the filter at a glance. I swap the filter annually and have a cleaned & oiled filter sealed in plastic ready to go months before I am ready to swap out. In retrospect, I could have saved the $300+ for the cold air intake...but it was worth a shot. BTW no codes whatsoever on my 2020 Bighorn 1500 w/5.7 Hemi. I have consistently gotten 18.5 - 19mpg per tank with a mixture of in town and highway. On road trips, I average 22-23mpg as long as the terrain is mostly flat. Throw in a lot of hills and that drops fast. That has held steady from 6 months before I installed the CAI till present day.

In my opinion everyone that has spoken here is right...
Those claims from these companies that their product flows more than stock,hp/tq increases--‐-hogwash or not,I don't know,but I guarantee you it is at a cost of filtration.
If the stock system works well enough out to x-amount of hp with super filtration (and I totally believe it does) I wouldn't mess with it...
Your $$$,your ride do as you want.

I seen more people complain about code’s being thrown due to the after market intake. The ‘19 + 6.7’s have sensors that are uber sensitive due to all the emissions on them. As stated above, stick to stock.

Installing a CAI on an intercooled turbo diesel (or any intercooled engine) doesn't make much sense as thats what an intercooler is supposed to cool the intake air after being heated up during compression from the turbo (or supercharger).
If one wants a CAI for the looks, sound, or the ease of checking the filter status, then have at it.

As mentioned, they're useless. The air going in to the engine is metered, throttle is electronically controlled.

If you want a mod that actually makes a difference get it tuned.
