Just looking for any suggestions. I have a 01 1500 V8 5.9 and am looking for ways for better mpg as I refuse to not drive it daily. Most of the driving is interstate not in town. Any thoughts on if a cold air intake is worth the $150 or if other options should be looked at first. I know that it is better for performance. Any suggestions are great. Thanks

A programmer would give you more bang for your buck, but honestly, any economy changes you'd see would be minimal. The best way to get more MPG's is to alter your driving style, or.....buy a Prius, lol.

I am getting about 10 or 11 now :( I have oversized tires which doesnt help I know but stock will not go back on. LOL Any good brands of programmer? I thought about them too but I dont know enough about them to commit to a brand. Prius is not an option either LOL The truck is paid for id rather deal with the poor mpg's.

I would get a SCT from Hemifever. Light footed driving should net you a solid 1 mpg gain and there's plenty of power, plus they can be custom tuned.
They're also cheaper (new) than a SCT.
Install is plug n play...if I can do it anyone can.

If your stock air intake is in good shape, drop in a performance filter ( K&N or spectre) and you'll be fine...unless a bunch of expensive mods are in your future. Your stock system is a very effective CAI for a near stock vehicle. Otherwise you're wasting your money on some polished pipe and a too small cone filter.

If you really need something "dressy" under the hood buy a 14x3 chrome air filter setup and install it. Far cheaper than a CAI and just as much performance.

Higher quality fuel
Up to date maintenance (plugs, fluids, send some injector cleaner through it)
Correct psi in all tires
If you can drive more at night when it's cooler or early in the AM.
Coast to a stop sign or light rather than braking.
On my older dodge ('98) paying attention to all of that netted me about another 1.5mpg.
It was a 1998 5.9l quad cab with 6" suspension and 37.5" tires. I would stay around 11-12 MPG
