I have upgraded my 2014 Express with the 5.0 RA2 unit which has the ability to have a compass function which was not originally available in my truck. Does anyone know exactly what is needed to get the compass to work? I know there’s a compass module but it’s not clear to me what else is required such as the overhead console and other items like wiring.

Prior to having this (and other allied) functionality available in vehicles, I just carried a Garmin GPS on the front seat. Did it all, no fuss, no muss, no risk to the now sensitive electronics. They are cheaper now than they were!

My recommendation, reference the owners manual either paper, pdf or online. I'm certain the compass function has not changed a bunch and probably works the same across several years.

I don't remember what the process was, here's google AI answer

To calibrate a Ram truck's compass, find an open area away from metal, turn the ignition on, and use the EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center) to select the "Calibrate Compass" option under Setup, then perform one or more 360-degree turns until the "CAL" indicator disappears, signaling completion. If the CAL symbol doesn't appear, some models allow manual entry by holding the US/Metric button while pressing Comp/Temp until CAL shows, then turning in circles.
