I have a 2012 6.7 with roughly 140k miles on it and about two months ago while turning it completely died-engine, power steering, radio, lights- everything shut off out of the blue. I was lucky no one was around so I drove straight into a curb until I could shut the truck off and restart. It lagged a bit and flicked all the lights on when you turn it on before it died again. It did this a couple times for about 5 minutes before it started right up and was just fine. Checked the wiring around the ignition and thought a loose wire was the issue. Didn’t have another issue with it until today. It died this morning as I was turning right at a light and had the same issues as before. Was able to nurse it to a parking lot with no power steering and restarted it after 5 minutes. Then happened again turning left about 20 minutes later same exact issue. Gonna check the fuel system later and see. Any ideas?

Crankshaft/ camshaft position sensors, check your spark plug/seals to ensure they good and not leaking. Both were my issues with the same symptoms as you. I learn toward the latter though. My truck 2011 1500 5.7 w/ 140,*** miles would just stall when coming to a stop or turning.

Did you run codes? I think you are heading in the right direction with ignition. I know the 2012 hemi has a TIPM, so if the Cummins has a TIPM it could easily be that as well. As another resource check what tdr says on this. Even diesel you look at fuel, air and spark. Usually with air or fuel it is less immediately fatal, usually you will have more warning and a CEL, maybe loss of vacuum is the exception. Sometimes with spark via ignition or tipm the truck reads or thinks that you shut it off simply by the fact the electrical connection was stopped. You would think after all this time the system can verify the key position, but it doesn't that I know of. If they cpu would read key position when the loss of spark happened, you could get an easily fixable CEL, but I can't tell you how many times this has happened with rams. Ignition issues that doesn't throw a code.

You can bypass ignition with the tipm, use a relay that isnt hot at all times, like cig lighter.

whether it is ignition, or relay, this bypasses both. At least you wont kill yourself, hide switch under dash, potential thieves would never know.

Question would be if it is win module and it is faulty would that also kill cig lighter like it did your lights, maybe yes in this situation. You may need new win, or tipm, dunno, *****. I encourage you to fix it before driving again.

Because the lights and radio go off I think you can exclude most of the other potential causes like sensors and/or transmission issues. There are a bunch of things that can cause a stall, but loss of electrical power and a stall it can only be a couple things. If grounds are good, battery connections and charge is good, in my opinion is has to be ignition or relays. There is so much value in Cummins with such low miles, I would eat both to know I have new ones, TIPM and WIN. Of course get a second opinion on that, my last Cummins was 2002 so I'm not current. Dealer will have to flash it anyhow, see what they will charge for those items.
