Buy the covers or paint. Honestly after my experiences I would only use it on interior pieces. Again check for pre-owned parts. The quick and easy fix isn’t always the best IMO. That’s only because I didn’t have luck with the product.

I wouldn't put pd on calipers...too much heat, I would think.

I’d use G2 for the calipers. Pretty easy and durable.

Plastidip is rated to 300 degrees and I’m sure the calipers can get way hotter than that, especially if you tow anything with weight. Check out covers like others have said here.

Here's what I used for my calipers, I agree with the others that have said they're too hot for plastidip:

I apologize if there's been a 100 threads about this already, but I'm considering plastidip for my wheels mainly cause it's cost effective and removable if I happen to hate it. I've heard good and bad stories about the durability and overall longevity. I currently have stock chrome clads and am interested in going all black. I was thinking that I'd remove the clads, clean the actual wheel, and get the plastidip done "professionally". Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just do it yourself it’s actually fun one make sure rim clean and dry
Two put it on thick looks better and easier removal and or longevity take your time build the layers up self leveling spray vynal fun stuff

Do it yourself, too easy to pay others to do it.

I'm just glad to hear people are having good experiences with it haha. Gonna pull the trigger here in a couple weeks. I swore I wouldn't black out the truck, but damn it looks good every time I see it.

I just wouldn't plastidip your whole truck. I've seen that done. There's a guy with a YouTube channel who did that. He later regretted it.

So let me ask you guys, I got a set of used wheels that I am thinking about plastidipping.
They are not mounted and have no tires on them.
If I go ahead and do this, when they mount the new tires, will it scratch and ruin it along the rim?
Sometime in spring I will need new tires and I plan on doing it then.

I’m sure they installer will scratch the dip while putting the tire on even if they are carful. You can always touch it up though. It would be easier to dip after the tires are on.

I don't get the hate. PlastiDip is a product with a purpose, that performs like it should when used in a correct application, and done right. It's not supposed to be permanent, that's what real paint is for.

Correct, I have used plasti dip on my chrome tips. It looks great, but i have to maintain the clean smooth look of them every few months or so, since nicks and chips will appear.

No big deal to cover them either, boosted, has a helpful video on youtube that i watched.

I used Plastidip and had okay results with it. I don’t like that it needs a glossifier to get a gloss look. I recently tried Superwraps DIY spray wrap on my rims with really good results. I did the wheels in February and had new tires mounted last weekend with very little damage from the tire machine and none that couldn’t be touched up. The photos are from February but they look just as good today even though they’re dirty.

The first rim is 9 coats of gloss black. The second rim is 9 coats of gloss black with 3 coats of clear. I think the gloss alone gives the better look.

Plastic dipped mine with a rattle can. Has lasted through last year's winter.

Cleaned entire rim with dish soap. Dried, wiped down with rubbing alcohol. Masked off the tire and sprayed 4 coats.

How many cans did you use?
