Looking to get a coolant heater (Webasto, Espar etc..) has anyone tried the cheaper units sold on Amazon? I've seen them for a 1/4 of the price co yo Webasto. Just need one that works and installs without issues. Must be programmable.

The problem is ill be parked where there's no plug in.
Then how are you going to use a coolant heater with no plug in? You can end up killing the battery? Unless you plan on using it with the vehicle running. Best bet is either a battery pack for a block heater in my opinion. They make rechargeable packs that can plug into the accessory plug similar to an inverter.

It'd take one hell'va sized battery pack to run a high draw block heater for 8 to 10 hours lol.

Check out some of the Diesal pages on facebook, you'll probably get more info on them, then here for a diesal powered heater

Agreed. That’s your best place to look. The small self contained heaters run on diesel since that’s what type of engines they are designed for. Unless you are in the most extreme temperatures you don’t need an engine block heater on a gas engine. But some diesels can be difficult to start and warm up in sub zero temps.

As nice as it is to have a self contained engine heater for a gas engine, the cost and install issues where you need a separate diesel tank in my opinion are not worth it. Get a long range remote start (WiFi based systems offer limitless range) and just start the truck 10 minutes before you need to drive it. Would cost a lot less and install in a fraction of the time.

It's a6.7l diesel. The truck will be sitting in the open wind with temperatures down to -35 without the wind!!! I need a COOLANT HEATER not a block heater. Semis use these all the time.e to save fuel. They won't kill the batteries. And they are 7- day programmable timer. It would only run for 3 hrs, before I get in from my highway run.
You're no help since you font have experience in What I'm trying to get an answer too

If you keep calling it a coolant heater, 90% of the people are going to say block heater.
It's a WEBASTO diesel powered heater.
