Hey all, 2012 (4th gen) 4.7L 1500 here. Had my upper radiator hose blow out last week and then an engine overheat. I assumed the blown hose caused the overheat, but fixed the hose and got another overheat. My temp gauge has been stuck reading cold, and even when my engine is hot, the heat vents blow cold air.

My guess is the thermostat is bad and is stuck shut, and that is stopping coolant from circulating, therefore causing the overheats. Wondering if anyone else has other theories they think it might be/has had this problem before.

I would just change the t stat first off, basically a maintenance item. If it is clogged or junked up, let me know we have a easy fix. Could have a sensor issue. How was the hose? Was it very slimey inside?

Two items in the cooling system plus hose fail? As stated, was it slimey? Plus gauge stuck, which is a third thing, plus heat blows cold 4th thing. If the coolant failed causing all of this, you will want to run rmi25 through your system. If it is indeed fixed, congrats, but if anything simple thing is off at this point, get a bottle and run it through the system. Was coolant types ever mixed? How many miles? Was coolant always maintained?

New member, nto many posts...hope he comes back and checks up on his thred.

If so, USE RMI-25.
Clean up the system and did you have brown gunk or slime when pulled water pump or Thermostat, like Burla asked?

You could have other issues going on, just witing to trip you up that we could diagnose and tell ya how to fix before they bite you.
