Hello gentlemen and ladies. I'm thinking about removing engine fan hub, and just going with a new radiator with 2 electric fans. Has anyone done this before?? Looking for pros and cons. We tow a 40 foot 5th wheel toy hauler several times a year. Summer temperatures run 110⁰ fairly often. I have an 06 dodge ram 3500 5.9 Cummins 6 speed manual.

Based on what I recall others trying to do this back when I owned a 2006 5.9l CTD I suggest sticking with a stock fan set up, I don't recall anyone reporting of finding a good set up or results with electric fans...

That’s a huge discussion on my Jeep forum. Consensus is the original cooling set up is best even in the hottest desert area. Those that have changed to electric fans have failed miserably. I’d keep it original. Just my two cents.

I will add to this my little experience with several different engines and cooling. I have seen a few mechanical fan clutches fail, they always give a warning of noise or something. With the electric fans the only warning I have ever seen is after they fail and the engine over heats. I would stay stock less complicated. Changing to a bigger (more capacity radiator) would work wonders. Also if the tranny lines are cooled through the radiator put in a tranny cooler, and get them out of the radiator.
