Hey guys, on my ESC, I just learned a new trick that I didn’t know I had. Of course, I knew that when I shift my transfer case into 4-LO that not only does it automatically disable the auto park that slams the transmission in park if you drive with the driver door open and the seatbelt is not buckled but it also turns the ESC off but I had no idea that when you shift into 4-LOCK that if you press and hold the traction control button, after a little bit it’ll say across the screen behind the steering wheel that the ESC has been disabled.

I know a little bit about how the ESC works, but when the ESC is turned off in any of the four-wheel-drive modes aside from four-wheel-drive auto mode, what exactly is taking place with the ESC off? It would sure be nice if by, turning the ESC off would actually take away the constant engaging and re-engaging of my front drivetrain like it does in auto four-wheel-drive but I kinda have the feeling the transfer case is still gonna do that whether the ESC is on or off. If I had some snow outside to play in I could certainly go out and test it on my own but I highly doubt we’re gonna get any snow down here in southern Oklahoma anytime soon…lol.

But anywho, in regards to the bulb out message on the dash screen, I’m fixing to reinstall my security module bypass cable so that I can run my Alfa OBD program to see if I actually changed the license plate lights to LED being that I can’t remember if I did that or not and being that I also can’t remember where the bulbs came from that I put in my license plate lights to see if they actually are canbus compatible but the other day I noticed that one of my license plate bulbs was burnt out but I never did get the message on my screen saying it was out so how do you, or is it even possible to use LED lights in whatever socket that’s incandescent but not have the light out message show up when it’s not supposed to but actually make it show up when one of the LED replacements quits working? Thanks.

Watch this video,Gotti's Garage sells a plug-n-play switch to turn it completely off,if you don't want to pull the fuse.

Throw one of Brandon-W's transfer case lock up switches in with it,and you should have everything covered for having fun in the snow or mud.

So, I’m aware of the fact that like in 2WD, when you press the traction control button and it shows the little traction control icon in the middle of the tach, that means the traction control is only partially off but when the transfer case is in four-wheel-drive low or four-wheel-drive high and when it actually says it across the dash, ESC disabled) after pressing and holding the traction control button for a few seconds, that’s not the same thing as what that cable does that dude in the video sells?

Being that all the times where I’ve had the luxury to play in some snow, I’ve never tried driving my truck on a slick parking lot while it’s in 4-HI(4-LOCK) after pushing and holding the ESC button long enough to get it to say the ESC disabled because up until now, I didn’t know I could. I did know it would do it in 4-LO automatically but I hardly ever use low range.

The switch basically does the same thing as pulling the fuse does. Traction control will be completely off in 4 hi /4 auto etc.

Here's how the "TSC switch" works on my 2016.
If I’m understanding that correctly, you’re saying the ESC is only partially off unless you’re in 4-LO? Well, like I said, the one thing I discovered long ago was when in 4-LO, the auto park and the ESC says it’s fully disabled in the middle screen of my instrument cluster and today I found out that when in 4-HI, it’s looks to me like you can achieve the same thing but you have to press and hold the ESC(traction control) button for like 5 seconds and I also noticed that this only works in 4-HI. 2-HI or 4-AUTO does nothing when you press and hold the traction control button.

So again when it says ESC disabled on my EVIC screen after pressing and holding the traction control button while in 4-HI, it’s not fully turned off?

Seems to me like it is and is only partially disabled when only the traction control icon lights up in the middle of the tach.

It is,it's only partially disabled, the switch bypasses that and turns it completely off. You can make your own switch if you want,as you just disable the ESC fuse in the fuse box,John has his switch diagram above, it's easy enough to build his harness

If I took my truck offroad I would but I heard that kit of his will burn up the clutch actuator in transfer case you run it continuously for over 10 minutes and that there’s actually a disclaimer that comes with the kit telling you that.

Hmm. I would think “ESC disabled” means what it says but ok.

But wait a minute, being that I thought I saw in his video that with his switch, it will also disable the ABS too, doesn’t it? Because that would actually make sense that if you wanted both the ESC and the ABS disabled, you would have to get his kit but I don’t know, I guess it’s just me but I’m just having a hard time believing my ESC is not completely turning off even though it says it right on the dashboard that it has been disabled.

I have Brandon-W's transfer case lock-up switch and it works great. I have forgotten to turn it off many times for a long period with no burnt actuator. However, I had also returned to 2WD, so it may not have been an issue. I use it in 4WD Low to back trailers over a 6" curb. It allows me to crawl over the curb. Without it, I need to apply more power and the truck hops around uncontrollably getting over the curb. I have also used it in deep soft sand to creep out. Without it, the truck would bury itself.

Yeah, I don’t know, I’m only going off what somebody told me about it supposedly saying in the instruction book that you can’t run this for longer than 10 minutes or it will burn out the actuator or whatever it is that locks the clutch packs in the 44–44 transfer case.

Maybe your truck is one of these that my post #3 attachment mentions:

"JFJ Clarification for 4WD AUTO & 4WD LOCK on some newer trucks and SFT tuned trucks.
Pressing and holding the “Traction Control” switch for five seconds, the “ESC Off” message will appear in the odometer and the system will be in ESC Full Off mode as described below."

Hmm. I would think “ESC disabled” means what it says but ok.
That's only in 4L/4lock,the way i'm reading your post i thought you wanted it off in 4hi/4auto or 2wheel drive mode.
Haven't heard of anybody burning up the clutch in their 44-44 t-case using Brandons switch.
Point us to where you heard this.
Maybe Brandon-W will join in,he's floating around the forum today.
I'm pretty sure i remember him saying he put that caveat in the instructions so guys wouldn't leave it engaged all the time

So what is the SFT tuned trucks? What does that mean?

But OK, so does that mean what the message that comes across my EVIC says?

Maybe we’ll get some snow one of these days and I can go try this just to see.

No, I don’t necessarily need it to do that in all modes, I’m just pointing out what it says on my EVIC screen when I shift the transfer case into 4-LOCK(4-HI) after I press and hold the traction control button for about five seconds and that when I shift the transfer case into low range, it reads that same message automatically, along with the message that reads that my auto park has been disabled.

That might take me a bit because I’d have to go back and find it but it was on one of those Facebook ram groups where somebody was saying that but I did read somewhere on here a long time ago about that kit of his that the only thing I saw that you don’t wanna do is leave the switch turned on even after you shut the truck off because being that it’s not controlled apparently by the ignition switch, it’ll run your battery down

SFT is Sofa King Tuning. At the time I made the mentioned PDF I was running their tune.

I would believe what the EVIC says

What is sofa king tuning?…lol.

But yeah, no offense to wild one, I feel like I’d have to believe what the EVIC says but then again, until we get some snow around here to make some icy roads, I won’t be able to test this theory out because I’m not taking my truck into a muddy pasture somewhere. Between my street tires and my 44–44 transfer case, I’d probably end up buried… Lol.
