So I noticed my passenger side outside boot is cracked and spitting out grease.

So, do I have to get the whole axle replaced or can you just repair the boot. The joint still sounds good and no clicking so I'm hoping that I can just replace the boot.

Secondly, is this a fairly easy DIY and lastly, would this be covered under the powertrain warranty?

Most likely you won’t get it covered under the power train warranty but you can try. Honestly, I’d replace the whole shaft as there’s that much grease in there for a reason, so, some damage could already be done to it unless you know for sure that it just happened. I used to replace the boot and grease but it’s a bandaid more than the right repair. But, I’m sure there are going to be a lot of people that will just say to replace the boot and pack it well.

The axles are so cheap now that it's not even worth attempting to change the boot. I pinched mine when I put on my leveling kit. So I put a new axle in. Not hard to do, youtube it. I think the complete new axle was like $71

Exactly. Worth doing it for sure. Sure easy and a no brainer.

In my previous vehicles, your going to be doing the teardown might as well replace the axle. My only beef is that I dont put as much trust in aftermarket axle as I do OEM. So cost becomes an deciding factor.

Would grease from a cv joint be greenish in color? Just had a good friend install my leveling kit and lo and behold on passenger side there’s a green colored grease slinging upwards in wheel well. Crap happens but having only 4K miles on a truck and now this!
