After getting a new used motor put into my 2000 5.9 magnum I realized I didn't have a crankshaft sensor. got a new one put it in drove it for about 25 miles ran good. now it runs good until the motor gets warm then it starts popping back firing and it just threw the check engine light on. and im getting code p1391 and one more that I don't remember but both say its the sensor. any idea way it throw those codes? what else could it be?

O2 sensor is usually what causes that issue you're experiencing

I just now realized why the sensors went bad. After putting the new used motor in a ran two cans of sea foam,m. Not realizing that it probably wasn't the best idea at the time so in guessing that's why the sensors went bad.

idk if the 02 sensors are actually the cause but they have 200k+ miles on them so im going to replace them anyway. I know after I put the new motor in that I didn't have the coil wire routed right and it got up against the exhaust manifold and melted though the cover. I just rerouted it and left it. could the wire arching off a piece of metal cause intermitted signal to distributor and cause a back fire?

I think a 1391 is intermittent loss of one or either crank or cam sensor. Is the crank sensor tight in the block? You can reach back there and feel it. Also is it "clicked in" to the harness tight? What about cam sensor? It's in the distributor and will go bad depending on miles. Did you use same distributor that was in the truck or a different one?
