I got stuck in a ditch this past weekend and somehow in the process of getting out my passenger side cv boot tore and grease slung out everywhere. I didn't notice it until i got home more than an hr and a half drive later. Do i need to replace the whole cv shaft or can it be cleaned up and rebooted? My thoughts are, since i got to take the shaft out to reboot anyway i might as well just slide a brand new unit in there. How big of a pain in the ass is it to get the cv in and out? BTW, its a 2013 1500 outdoorsman 4x4.

I just replaced both my cv axles passenger and driver...and its not the first time either.. there not too bad to get off mine came out alot easier this time than last... the nut is a 35mm.. crack that loose before you get the tire off unless you have air tools.. pull tire off. tap the shaft where its in your wheel hub back towards the diff and then get under the truck get a hammer and hit the inner portion of the shaft out wards from the diff so it can pass the c clip... and then it should give you the room to come off... dropping the upper ball joint helps and gives you alot more room also but having a second pair of hands helps to hold the knuckle so its not straining brake line... easier of course if you pull caliper and rotor but i didnt feel the need
