For about 10 years I've been using a simple GoPro in my semi and . It's dying now so I purchased a Pruveeo 4 channel dash cam D90-4CH. $170ish on Amazon.
Maiden run tomorrow.

I installed this one last week. Put the rear camera in the drivers side lower corner of the window, and ran the wiring under the door thresholds and up the left side. Easy to run the power down the left side and under the dash to the center of the dash. I have the jump seat, so, it's plugged into the drivers side power outlet.Screenshot (229).png

I’m using a cheap one that I bought off the TikTok shop. Paid $35 for it and it works great. It suction cups to the windshield. Then I ordered an OBD to mini-usb to power it.

i'm using a RedTiger 4k, front and rear camera. FN7P. Amazon. Videos are very nice.

if you find one, get one with 4k recording.

so many out there to choose from now. Bought one for my granddaughter who seems to blame everyone else for her accidents.

Most dash cams have relatively the same internals. Don’t overspend. I have Chortau, spent $55 on it 4 years ago. Recently bought a brand new one for the motorhome, don’t remember the Amazon letter sequence name, for a similar price. The recorded vids and quality are the same.

One thing to look for is make sure it can take a 256gb card or bigger.

I've had really good luck with Street Guardian dash cams and I'll second the comment about make sure it supports at least a 256GB memory card. Also use High Endurance type micro-SD cards as they're made for the constant rewrites of dash cams.
I have one of these to power the dash cam: https://dongar.tech/products/usb-hardwire-kit
That company also offers plug-in power taps that use the power from the rear view mirror.

I installed one from Fitcamx. It replaces the under part of the mirror, so it's all integrated. It's powered from the mirror too, so there are no cables. It works well. You really can tell it's there.
There are a few downsides.
1. There is no view screen, and you have to connect it to with your phone to download any videos. So there is an effort to watch anything. It keeps like a rolling 30 days or something like that.
2. It's only powered when the truck is running, for the most part. So there is no video when you are parked or anything like that.
3. You can't have your phone connected to uConnect and the cam at the same time since they both use wifi and Bluetooth. I use an old phone just for the camera.

I run a hardwired Thinkware U3000 front and rear camera system in my rig with the upgraded Thinkware branded 256GB micro sd card and it works flawlessly! The detail and clarity are excellent.

I practically live in my truck for work and pleasure usage. Having this system makes me feel much better when driving (although, I do disable the speed tracking and logging as I always drive within the posted speed limits). :)

I have 2 Garmins, 1 in each main vehicle. I did have a cheaper Amazon one in my truck but it died after a few years and it was a suction cup mount and kept falling off the windshield. The Garmins have a metal hexagon shape thing that sticks to the windshield then a magnetic 'socket' on the dash cam mount so it is easy to swap from one vehicle to another and have never had either one of them fall off. Dash cam is small enough that I installed them up beside my rear view mirror and it doesn't obstruct my vision at all. In fact in my wifes Subaru I have it on the passenger side of the rear view mirror and when I'm driving I can't even see it.

Do any dash cams have GPS so they can show your speed?

Depends on the camera. Some of your more expensive cameras do have GPS tracker and speed identify. I have the Rexing 4k camera. It mounts to the windshield and it has the option for speed or no speed. You can also log into the website and the GPS tracker can be brought up on maps. I can also turn internal mic on and off.

There is certainly a sea of dashcam offerings available with pricing all over the map, which makes it challenging to make a choice. I can suggest how to filter through all the choices; this is how I created a shortlist.

The video quality is only as good as the imaging tip, so look for dashcams using the Sony STARVIS 2 technology.

Better brands will have YouTube videos showing the recording quality in daylight and nighttime.

Look for a dashcam that can self-disable if the battery voltage drops below a settable value. Consider long-term parking at an airport as an example.

Some dashcams offer cellular, allowing recordings to upload to a cloud automatically.

Mounting is important. I wanted something that would be nearly invisible, so I found one that mounted just below the rearview mirror (Blackview).

Do you want a multi-camera dashcam?

Do you want to record constantly or just sample while parked? You can find dashcams that start recording when they sense a bump.

This topic is never talked about. Many dashcams use your smartphone to look at videos, download videos, and manage settings. For example, you were just in an accident and you want to show the incident video to an officer. The problem is that your phone is usually tied into your vehicle, like CarPlay or AndroidAuto, using both WiFi and Bluetooth. You want a solution that can make a video on demand with respect to the connection to your vehicle. I don't want to suggest you go with a Blackview, but the Blackview can do this.

Another overlooked issue is temperature. The dashcam could be sitting in front of the sunscreen in the Arizona sun or shivering in the Yukon. You want a dashcam that can operate in these temperature extremes.

Some brands offer an optional polarizing filter that reduces/eliminates windshield reflections.

Make a list of the features you want, and then try to find a dashcam that meets most of the features important to you.

I have a Rexing. It takes good video and is unobtrusive.

The Wi-Fi is a bit of a disappointment. You have to manually turn it on through a couple of button pushes / menu choices. Kind of a pain with the screen angled down and it is awkward reaching it when mounted. The app is a bit quirky trying to see the video.

It would be much better if the app could turn on the wifi.

I purchased 2 different dash cams for my 22 Ram and I could never connect the wifi. Is it because of apple CarPlay or what? its not hardwire just the regular usb or cigarette lighter connection. Im afraid that if I purchase another dash cam, I would have the same issue. How do you guys go around apple CarPlay and connect to the dash cam wifi? is there a way?

Having a local installer in my town to do Redtiger both front & rear this Monday.

I live in Maricopa, AZ the drivers here on HWY 347 the main highway leading to Phoenix are just "out of their minds crazy!" Split second maneuvers at high speeds. And Red light runners.

I have many near accidents around me and short distance away from me. And I have seen many hit and runs.

I have to protect my new RAM truck. Anything happens I need to hold the person at fault responsible.
