I will be upgrading my dash speakers in my '17 Laramie with the Alpine system. I bought the speakers (JBL Club 3020) from Amazon and the adapters (bag just says 3991673) from Crutchfield. I've seen on here that some people had to reverse the pins for correct polarity and others said they didn't. Does anyone know for sure if these adapters are correct or if they need to be reversed? I also saw that someone said the stock dash speakers are 8 ohm and the clubs are 3 ohm. Do I need to add a resistor to these for proper balancing?

Thanks
Stan

Stan,

I did the same thing... but used JBL GX302s, and Metra adapters 72-7901s and had to reverse the wiring for proper polarity.

Just take a 9v battery and connect it to a factory speaker to determine which way it 'forces' the speaker outwards. Once it does that, the polarity is correct... then align the adapters accordingly.

I had 2 ohm dash speakers in my 2016 BH, so I cannot comment on adding a resistor or not, Sorry.

Hope this helps get you going.

I had a 2015 Big Horn with the Alpine system. I replaced the corner dash speaker with Polk's that were 4 ohms. If I remember correctly, the Alpine dash speakers were 4 ohms. After installation the Polk's were much crisper and clearer than stock speakers. I did not notice that they were any louder. So I tend to think the stock speakers were 4 ohm speakers. If so, there would be no need for a resistor. I used the Metra 71-039C wiring adapters.

Here is a picture of the dash speaker from my 2015 Big Horn with the Alpine system. The part number is 05064359AB. A quick Google search just now did not determine the impedance. Maybe you will have better luck.

Now I have a 2018 Big Horn with the stock 6 speaker system. I put the same Polk 4 ohm dash speakers I had in my 2015 in my 2018, reusing the Metra 71-039C adapters. The stock dash speakers were 8 ohms. The 4 ohm Polk speakers are a bit louder and somewhat overpower the front door speakers. I'm going to install the resistors so I ordered two resistors. I figure I might as well get another set of wiring adapters, solder the resistors in place, and then swap them out with the wiring harness I'm currently using. I could also directly compare the sound output of one speaker with the resistors against one speaker without the resistors.

I went on Crutchfield to order the same wiring adapters I used before, but they are "no longer available". A Crutchfield tech told me during an online chat that the wiring harness adapter I need for the dash speakers is Metra 72-7902. I ordered this set of adapters. I'm waiting to get these components and install them. Hopefully they will come tomorrow or Friday. At that time I could give you more clarity on the situation.

Bottom line--I don't think you will need resistors for your Alpine system. I believe the wiring adapters you need are Metra 72-7902.
