The Dee Zee Tailgate Assist Shock is awesome!!
$28 and about a 10 minute install. Now the wife wont just let the tailgate drop and complain it's too heavy :)

They work great! Plus they impress people when it comes down on its own! If you didn't already make sure you put red (permanent) locktite on the bolt/ball attached to the tailgate! They wiggle loose after a while and bend the bolt/ball. It's happened on my ram and my dad's F 250!

Love mine, the only issue I have had is that it froze up once I'm not sure if it got some water in there or what but it's been great sense I love just pulling on the tailgate handle and letting it go. By far the best mod under $30 bucks

Thanks, yeah they include a bottle of blue thread locker but ended up using red loctite.
Jadocs, no drilling and it comes with all the tools and screws you need, very easy to install and there are 9 instructions with pictures :)

I got mine from etrailer.com

They were great! I had one go bad one me so they sent a whole new kit up. They said to just keep the old one which was nice! I'm in Canada so shipping hurts lol.

I bought mine on Amazon, I think it was around 25... Btw, their customer service is great. I screwed up the install of the price that goes in the tailgate panel. They are sending me a new price, no charge for part or shipping, even though I said I would pay.

So mines in the mail as we speak. I watched an install video and have a couple questions.

1. Why do you need to remove the "limiter" on the tailgate cable?

2. When installing the piece that goes on the tailgate they say hold it in and tighten 8 turns or something using their tool. Is it possible to over tighten it? I assume it might spin if it's not tight enough when putting the final screw in, but it also has to be tight enough where the shock doesn't wiggle when snapped in.

The limiter needs to be taken off because the cable actually has to rotate further than before to accommodate the shock and the cable limiter. You need the limiter so the cable won't get between the shock, bed, and tailgate causing binding.

In theory you could over tighten the nutsert, but you'd have to get pretty cowboy with it. It really has to be a little tighter than "tight enough where the shock doesn't wiggle when snapped in" because you are drawing the inside of the nuttiest against the inside of he tailgate. Make sure you use RED locktite as others have mentioned.

I installed mine a couple weeks ago. Frankly, the posts here (not this thread in particular, others around the forum) had me scared to death. However, it took me about 10 minutes and I encountered zero problems.

Perfect thanks for the info. On a separate note SB, how do you like your bedrug mat?

Secretly it's my favorite mod. No issues whatsoever and quicker to remove from the truck if I want to clean the bed or haul REALLY nasty stuff. and SOOOOO much easier on the knees than the bed liner.
