There's two filters...a spin on filter like we have for oil filters and a sump filter...I would just go down to NAPA and get one of their brand filters, they are really good.

NAPA part numbers for the sump filter are: ATP 18594

The spin on filter part numbers are: ATP 18593

Wix also makes the filters and I believe oreilly stocks them.

HAHA, yeah that's what I meant by saying there are two filters. Both of them are in the transmission.

Also the owner's manual calls for mopar ATF+4 type 9602 trans fluid.

1) Does anyone use anything different or should I just go with what the manual says?

2) how many quarts for the 4.7?

3) Should I use a sealant when putting the pan back on? Silicone?

Use a good ATF+4 type fluid. this is what the manual says

Service Fill - 45RFE/ 545RFE- 4X2 - 5.2 L (11.0 pts.)
4X4 - 6.2 L (13.0 pts.)
O-haul - 45RFE/545RFE-14-16 L (29-33 pts.)

Also use the black RTV on the pan. Make sure to follow the directions on the back of it carefully.

Go to Advance and get their brand ATF +4, it is bought in bulk from Valvoline and bottled under their name. We used to fill it for them. It is the SAME exact ATF +4 that is put into Valvoline bottles.

You are just doing a service fill...not an overhaul.

Yeah I think I may take a ride over there next week and grab some but I may have to buy the filters off the internet.

How many quarts would I need?

I would get 7 quarts...add 5 of them, then crank the engine and while parked, drop the transmission into each gear, pausing for about 10 seconds betweeen each shift...do that all the way down every gear, and then again all the way up...leave the engine running and check the fluid level again, and top off to the fill mark. Don't over fill it, if you do it will foam up on you and you dont want that.

Ok so I am planning on doing the trans fluid within the next week or so. I have both filters, a seal and an "O" ring.

Does the O ring come right off and is a simple take out and replace?

im in the same boat, sort of. is it better to drain from the pan than to flush? i dont know what the PO did to the truck before i took ownership. id like to flush the old fluid out, all of it. sorry for the highjacking, just didnt want to start a new thread on it when there already a thread going

bump...Does anyone know how many quarts go into the 45RFE trans on an 02 4.7? If not I will just pick up 7qts to be safe.

Also looking for more info about the O ring and how that comes out and how to put in the new one.

had mine done at the dealer. 8 quarts after dropping the pan
