Do I need a weight distribution hitch? The trailer weighs 3980 pounds (which is more than half the weight of a 2015 ram 2500 cummins tow vehicle) w/ 510 pounds tongue weight

I do use the sway friction control bar.

No, not for that trailer weight and corresponding tongue weight.

If you move up in weight then seriously consider a WD hitch.

Personal call. If it handles well, you most likely don't need one. I have a slightly lighter trailer with a 1500 Ram and I use one. Driven it with and without, and it handles better (IMO) with it...personal choice, but I have a lighter truck.
