Just when you think you have seen it all, some d.a. brings something in that surpasses it.

I've seen that before. Back in the early 90s, when I got out of the Navy, I got a job at Purrfect Auto. Few days in, I get to work and there is a tow truck with a newer Mazda 626 on it. Customer said he had the brakes done a few weeks before I started there. Get it on the lift, raise it up and the wheel falls off. Customer said after they did the brakes he brought it back in because they didn't feel right. Shop tells him they adjusted the brakes and they should be good to go.

After doing my inspection, it appears they tightened the spindle nut with an impact. Bearings destroyed, races welded to the spindle. Only thing holding the wheel on was the rotor, until it looked like the pic above.

Told the customer that the shop should be responsible. Him and the Manager made a deal where shop would cover labor and customer covered the parts (about $1300 at the time). He also told the Manager what I said. I was fired shortly after.
