Does anyone know why someone would do this? I bought this truck a couple of weeks ago, and the dealer had no idea why.D4E64660-10AD-4255-A6DD-2297D039EADF.jpeg0A588105-FE19-4518-ACC5-1430F7E06548.jpeg

Looks like what I've seen on vans with double swing open doors for the door stop to go into. Don't see why it would be on the back of a pickup though.

Looks like they had reverse lights tied in there. Some kind of rock light by the looks of it. Pull the taillights and see if the harness looks played with.

It's the foam gasket off of some backup lights.

If that is what i think it is:

Someone mounted some brand of spot lights, so they would have work lights like on some Shop Trucks

The part that they left on the truck, looks like it has grooves
I bet the removed part also had similar grooves.
You could adjust the light beam by loosening something like a wing nut, rotate the light to the desired position, then re-tighten the wing nut to hold the light in a different position

Is it a possibility it was used for law enforcement purposes? We have rides that have lights in that exact spot. Little led lights on the corners that are similar.

I just realized it's a really new truck though. Weird that if it was an leo ride that they'd get rid of it so soon.

Some types of Civil Service vehicles are sold at 100,000 miles
I worked for a State Agency that did that, it did not matter if the vehicle was in perfect condition or not.
Sometimes they were sold to other Agencies, most times they were auctioned off

It looks like some type of a strain relief, someone had lights back there and ran the wires through those holes, probably a small hole in the body panel, look behind the bumper/ trailer hitch area you might fine some wires.

The truck only has 18,000 miles on it so I don’t think it was law enforcement. Also there are no signs of gas lines for flame thrower or oil slicker devices. I thought perhaps it was some type of backup or spotlight mount, which is something I would like to do. I was really hoping that I could find the same brand so I could use what is already there. P.S. thanks everyone for your response, I appreciate it very much.

I vote for strobe warnings lights. Are there any mods in front, possibly behind the grill ?

Reminds me of a pilot car or road work vehicles where they're hauling something with the tailgate down, the regular taillights are covered up by something and they need some outrigger lights to string out on the load.

See if you can dig up any info on the previous owner and ask them directly. That's what I would try. I've done that before with used cars that I've had questions on.

See about getting a car fax report. That might shed some light on the subject.
