Does the powertrain warranty cover the manifold bolts?

Of course. When they're doing the work free, they get to do it however they want. If they drill into the head, they have to pay to replace it.

When its out of warranty, due diligence is prudent.

Consider the cost comparison. Youll likely be replacing those manifold screws every 65,000 miles. For me, that means about 3 time during the time i own the truck, since i tend to buy them used and drive them till theyre junk.

$600 per stud replacement job at the dealer x 3 replacement jobs = $1800

So, i can budget up to $1800 for the tools to do the job and the training/time to learn it.

Then, i get to use the tools and training for other **** :)

Like building my Smoker...

$6000 of steel plate, tube, axles and tires. 100 hrs of labor and another 40ish hours CAD drafting, solid modeling about a hundred parts.

Or you could just buy a set of headers install them and be done?

Ha! Ya got me!

If id done that, how would i have justified the cost of a 2000$ welder to the wife?

Headers are on my list. American racing shortys. Just as soon as my next manifold stud snaps.

Thanks guys, I had no idea this was a common issue. Looks like I have a new summer project this year.

Do you happen to know if upgrading to stainless hardware is a permanent fix? I'm curious to know why this isn't a recall item.

Apparently it is not. As stainless is kinda brittle it'll break over time too. Problem is the manifold is so thick and you get expansion and contraction stretching the bolts and breaking them. Headers are usually the fix because the bolts are shorter and the flanges don't expand as much beint steel not cast iron.

I was told by my dealer the bolts we'll be covered under the 36k bumper to bumper warranty but no covered under the extended one.

I'll disagree with your dealer. I just read my extended warranty and it reads: excluded from the warranty are fasteners, bolts et.al, that do not fasten two covered components together.

The exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads are covered therefore, the bolts are covered.

Replaced driver's side after about 85k miles on my 2012 RAM. Passenger side is now ticking after 100k.

Is breaking manifold bolts a somewhat common issue on all brand trucks or just ram? Seems like ive read brand X guys complaining about this as well.

I've heard lots about the manifold bolts breaking. I have a Certified Pre-Owned 2016 with a 5.7 Hemi. I have the 100,000 mile warranty. Are the manifold bolts covered?
Thanks.

Yes, I had it done on my 2015 Outdoorsman and they even showed me how to get my rental car fee reimbursed by Chrysler.

My questions are a lot like what 493mike posted. I would rather fix my truck's issue before they become a real problem, if the 'fix' is not too drastic.

So I'm following this thread for tips on quality shorty headers, early bolt replacement, change-over to studs/nuts, and other ways to address the issue before the bolts break.

My 2014 Durango was covered under the 100,000 mile warranty by my dealer for the manifold bolts.
