Do I need to remove the entire door handle from the truck to get the outer chrome shell off of it?

I had it half off the handle earlier but couldn't get it to release from the side that stays stationary when pulling the handle.

I'm guessing its screwed in from the backside to hold it on?

I'm trying to get it off so I can properly paint them and it would save me a ton of work if I didn't need to remove the door handle completely to get them off. Otherwise I guess I'll just vinyl wrap them while on the vehicle.

Got to go from the inside to change them out. Doing mine this week, you can purchase them new in any color from Mopar parts. Here is a cool video to help you out.

I was talking about removing just the chrome piece in the picture below. I did have it halfway off but then couldn't get it the rest of the way off.

You are in the same boat as all of us with the factory chrome handles. There are two tabs on the back making it appear like a quick removal but on the far side there is a screw holding it in from the back. To make matters worse that screw is not accessible. I plastidipped mine and that lasted about a month. I consulted a body shop and they said they can paint them but the fake chrome does not hold paint that well so they most likely will flake after a few years. I also looked into the black covers but most of the reviews were some of the chrome still showed around the edges. The thick of it is if you don't want the chrome a new handle is the only right way. The job is not that hard just very tedious and time consuming. I personally am still on the fence weather I am doing black handles or color matched. I will dynamat the inner door while I have it all apart as well.

That's what I was wondering, that answers the question, the dang screw.

If I go through all the work of replacing the door handles, I will definitely be dynamating and whatever else I can do to help with noise!!
