I'm almost positive i need a new axle shaft when im fixing my hub so much that i'm not going to try and use the old one. Problem is the parts wont be in till friday at the soonest and seeing as i've basically been squatting at this house for 2 weeks now i need to get the hell out before i get kicked out. I'm going to have a mechanic come out and do this for me (punching my self in the face for that right now) and he said it can be done with simply removing the axle shaft and putting a new one in later. Kinda sounds like BS to me tbh but i just wanted to see what you guys think. Can i drive this without any axle shaft on the left side ?

Another dude is going through that right now. He's going to be running without shafts in his front diff for a couple weeks while waiting for them to get in. The weight of the vehicle is supported by the hubs, so I don't see why you couldn't.

You need to use the outer stub shaft in the hub and tq'd or **** will go wrong.

The short u joint end? TQ'd=torqued? ill make sure he torques everything down properly. Edit: that wasnt very descriptive the splined part with the axle nut on the end right? edit: edit: just making sure i pulled this number off the FSM 175 ft/lb?

I don't think it will make a difference. If you think about how you remove the axle shaft in the first place. Unbolt the hub and pull the shaft right out. The shaft isn't really supporting anything. Even with the bolt torqued down, the shaft could pull right out if you unbolted the hub. I imagine you would be fine. I might have to do this myself soon.

The torque if the axle nut provides preload to the bearings. If you really want to go without the axle shaft, you still need to reinstall the outer stub shaft or the hub will fail.

Wheeler and merc are 100% correct. Without the spindle nut there is nothing to hold the bearing together. **** will go way wrong, catastrophically most likely.
