Im thinking about getting a 4" lift on my 2012 ram. I had a off road shop told me that after a 3"lift or higher, your drivetrain is effected. Anyone heard of this?? The dealership offers two different 4" kits and never mentioned this. The off road shop said to just stick with a leveling kit.

It would make sense. I mean the lift increases the distance between the axles of your truck, and the frame. Thus the splined portion of the driveshaft assembly would stretch more, and more to accommodate the increased ride height, and at some point, it would just fall off lol.

Interesting though as I haven't heard anyone on here mention that issue before though...

The lift will change your drivetrain. As stated before me, it will change the angles or your drive shafts and sometimes CV shaft, just depends on the lift. Its usually not enough to cause concern. I have a 10" on my truck and I had issues so I had to clock my transfercase to keep my front drive shaft angle good. 6" and below lifts will have no drivetrain issues due to the lift. It will change them but nothing to be worried about. The lift kits make sure everything is dialed in just right. The biggest change of all is actually not in the drivetrain. Its the life of your ball joints after putting bigger tires on with the lift. They tend to wear out faster with the bigger and more aggressive tire choice. The reason a off road shop told you that it effects the drivetrain is because most 3" and up kit relocate the front differential down to keep the CV angles good. I own an off road shop too so I deal with this stuff all day. Dont hesitate to ask any more questions. Everyone here can get you the answer you need.

They make the yolks pretty long, even with my 10" lift I still have plenty of room for slip. Ive used mine a lot and flexed it out hard and its never come out.

A tire I sell a lot of and see great price and millage (50,000 miles) out of is the good year duratrac. Its a good aggressive all terrain/mud terrain. What makes this tire good is its size choices. You can get a pretty tall tire with out having to go really wide. We put these on 90% of our leveling kits and small lifts. 33" and below tire. They have great ride and great load range. LT275/65R20 would be a good size for a 4" lift. Come out to be 34.1/11/20 size in inches
here is a link to goodyears website of the duratrac.

Another good tire for not to bad is a Toyo Open Country. Good wear life and not to high priced

You're definitely gonna wanna go a 35" tire though if you go higher than a leveling kit but everything captain said is right on the money.

I can't comment on the good years bc I haven't ran them, but all I can say is that my toyo's have been wearing VERY nicely and evenly
