Can someone explain to me exactly how the recirculate works? I am having a major dust issue when travelling gravel roads in my 2015 ram and i'm at a loss. I do have a cabin filter installed and that doesn't help and i'm pretty sure it is not the issue. I believe it's coming from the back but not 100% sure. This being summer time, i keep it on max a/c and recirculate. Doesn't that close vents from the outside? I'm just trying to understand the system itself and eliminate things as i go. The thing i have done last summer was the pull the back seat out and put a filter cloth on the vents in the back of the cab...might of helped but did not stop the problem completely. I do not want to block all the cab vents but would like to reduce this issue. The other question i have is in regards to the small looking vents on the "body" when you open the back doors at the bottom. What are those for? I popped both of them out and it's completely loaded with dust making me think that might be the culprit but not sure if i can block them or not.

Thanks in advance.

I would bet dollars to donuts that you don’t have a cabin air filter. While recirc closes to outside air, I don’t think that’s the issue.

I have a 2015 1500 too. You can get a MOPAR mod, to have a cabin air filter installed, but it has been suggested that it will limit AC throughput.

Wow...I guess no one read the entire post.. I DO have a cabin filter that I installed myself. Dust is not coming in through there. Can anyone tell me what those little looking vent things are on the bottom when you open the back door? What would happen if I block them? If I pull the rear seat belt out far enough, the belt is fully covered in dust.

You may blow the glass out if you slam the door if you block the rear vents

Oops, my bad. I wonder if you could fab some filter material to place over them. That might allow for a little release of pressure still so you don't blow a window and reduce the dust?? Im not really sure to tell you the truth.

huntergreen...yes i have and all is good around those seals. So currently me a/c is not working because freon is back order and who knows when that will show up, so windows are down and dust just comes in but the minute that's fix i will try to block those 2 little vent things at the bottom of the back doors and see if that's the root cause. Like i said in my original post, when i pulled those off, that cavity is absolutely full of dust so if that cavity is open to the inside then i'm pretty sure that's my issue. i'll try to find a little snake camera and stick it in there to see where it goes. The vents behind the back seat are not blocked but i covered them with a filter cloth of some sort i found at the hardware store.

Are you sure your recirc works. I've had 2 not sure what they're called, but they're plastic doors that change the air from recirc to fresh fail on my rams so it wouldn't switch.

Not using the recirculation mode should help keep dust out of the cab of the truck. The fan will pressurize the cab, the cabin air filter all of the air regardless of recirculation or not. Geno's Garage has an airfilter for the outside intake that mounts by the windshield wipers.

There r vents on the back of the cab that have flaps on them. They should stay closed till the doors r shut. It allows the pressure to escape. They could be stuck open. I don't think sealing up those in the door would hurt but if u can maybe try to cover it with a mesh or pre filter.

I added the cabin air filter and still have a dust problem until I search different forums. This is what I found when I took the back seat after to check the rear vents.

Part number: 68157351AD

The dealer whats about $16 while you can find the part online for $6-$10.

You will need to push on the 3 clips on top, push out the vent, angle it, then pull it towards the inside of the cab to get it out.

Here is an update. I installed the new filters in and clean out the dust as much as I could. I also placed a shop vac filter on the back side of the filter to help with the dust. I know doing this will have an affect on the AC/heat circulation. However, it does not change the pressure much when closing the doors with all the windows rolled all the way up.

Old thread but new information. Just found major source of dirt in cab by accident. Noticed seat shoulder belt didn’t roll out as easy as it should. Pulled it out further than normal and it was very dirty. Pulled panels from B and C pillars and they were both full of dirt. Vacuumed them out then got under truck and hit some body seam gaps and drain holes and blew dirt everywhere in cab. Very disappointed in build quality for such a rugged truck.
