Starting in 2025, the Hurricane will go down as by far the most reliable engine setup. The longer they're here, the better they'll be looked at.
You may be right. I was dead set against the Hurricane as an option I would consider. After driving one in a rented Wagoneer I was impressed. Not ready to own one yet but maybe in a couple more years if they continue to prove to be reliable.

The MGU is responsible for the start in S/S mode not the traditional starter which is 12v pulling it’s power from the traditional 12v battery. The MGU produces 48v when it’s in generator mode to feed the battery pack so it needs 48v in return when it’s in starter mode. The 12v battery is charged through the battery pack not directly from the MGU. Don’t see a mod being developed to bypass this system.
I'd almost wonder if the mgu couldn't be replaced with a normal alternator, and delete the complete 48V system, but then again,i don't own one,so that's just a guess on my part

I'm waiting for somebody to come out with a E-torque delete kit
Even though I would love to buy a brand new 2026 with all the problems mentioned above and a consistent E torque failures and the lack of parts that’s the biggest reason why I will stay with my 2019 VVT 5.7 L straight truck and no issue as far as E torque.

To date I have had zero issues with the eTorque system on my 2023. Although I’ve had no issues, I’m not sure the eTorque system is something I want to take past the 8 year / 80k warranty. There’s too many variables, replacement parts are expensive and hard to come by as of late and diagnosing this electrical rats doesn’t interest me.

Barring any unforeseen issues, the plan is to keep it through the end of next year and sell it. Between now and then I plan to pick up a ‘96 - ‘00 2500/3500 CTD and rebuild it for a daily driver.

I’ve been schooled in that the e-torque is more than just a stop/start unit, that it’s also tied into the transmission programming and the braking system and who knows what? So I’m not enough of an electronics guy to know if eliminating it on an existing truck is something that can just be programmed out with no risk of unintended consequences, or if it takes a bunch of change out of parts, processors, etc? But, I’ve got a feeling it’s not simple or someone would have done it by now.

I like to stare fate in the face and laugh while knocking on the kitchen table.
Right now I’d like to knock myself out lol but not truck related.

Start/stop separate from e torque. Me thinks RAM needs to junk dat lousy stuff go back to straight VVT. But wat do I know I’s just a Boird.

Not sure I understand your comment. The e-torque generator and belt drive is what is used as a starter to re-start the motor and it is powered in the motor phase off of the 48 volt battery pack. If the MGU goes out there is no start/stop mode with an e-torque.

AlfaOBD offers an option to enable/disable Hybrid TCM control as well as several other Hybrid options.

Most likely, the E-Torque trucks use the same ECM and other standard modules; the operation is just altered through BCM settings.

I would hope someone with a post-warranty and failing E-Torque truck becomes motivated to explore defeating the Hybrid crap. I would happily participate if they were local to me.

Saying stop/start independent system but all that stuff does work in coordination together so if there is MGU issues U got big oh chit.

Drove one and was very impressed. More kick than the Hemi and apparently better mileage, just don’t like first year anything.
Might be trading my 24 Hemi in a few years
Not the first year of the hurricanes they have been in the wagoneer's for almost 4 years now. I think the first year for them was the 2022 model year that came out in 2021.

True, but the Atlantis High electrical architecture is new for the 2025 Ram trucks.

A complete change from the existing design, and we have seen more than a few glitches.
Having worked in Communications for most of my working life, I would never buy one specifically for this reason.

Plus, I enjoy tweaking with AlfaOBD, and there are no tweaking options for the '25 yet.

I have a 22 model with the etorque. I got used to the stop/start function and just ignored it. Then I got to hearing about the starter/alternator motor going out and taking weeks if not months to get a new one. That's when I put the stop/start override chip in so it no longer kills the engine at a stop. My thinking is that the etorque starter isn't going to fail if I don't use it.

I can't ever see becoming accustomed to the daft start/stop system.
I travel in a buddy's Ferd sometimes and loathe the stupidity of this system.
If I spent more time in his truck, I might volunteer to provide a fix.

No matter how it's justified, it is completely abusive to the starting system, and the only benefit it might prove to have is theoretical, and most likely connected to CARB. Nothing else!

The only logical solution in my mind is to disable it at all costs.

I think you took the only sensible action.

However the MGU is still the generator for the entire vehicle and still charging the 48V battery which in turn charges the 12V battery, through a converter. So it’s still working away.

However, I don’t know if there has been any discussion on what is specifically failing on these MGUs. Is it wiring/windings? Bearings? Electric boards? Heat damage? Generator mode only? Starter mode only or both? Will the truck operate at all when one fails?

Manufacturers can be pretty tight-lipped about component failures. I had a Shelby GT350 foe awhile with one of those flat plane crank, 8,250 rpm motors and occasionally one would go ****. Ford would not even let a dealer do any disassembly of the motors. They were allowed to only remove the motor intact and immediately return it to Ford and they would then send out a new motor to be installed. So nobody really knew for sure what the issues were.

Looks like the 2026 1500 Hemi will only come one way - with e-torque. So hopefully RAM will do something to fix the parts supply problem to keep them on the road. Hope springs eternal.

The E-torque was standard on all 5.7 hemi's starting
in 2023. That's why I bought a 22............
I plan to run mine for a while, fast approaching 40K
miles, not one issue except for a software update.
I dislike breakdowns very much.

Yes it will if you have a bad unit. It runs constantly if the engine is running. It charges the 12v battery through the 48v system Also, if a bearing fails then you are still out of luck. Usually what fails are the bearings, and those are replaceable for around $40. The reason the winding fails is when the bearing goes, it wobbles, and the windings can get damaged.
So, all turning the stop/start does is stop the action, not any damage.
Although there is a back-order at dealers, it appears that the MGU is still available.
