What is the acceptable slack on the emergency cable? Mine sits just below the frame I cant do the quick fix ( hitting the levers behind the rotors) because the lever are pushed all the way back.
Also if I am on a hill and engage the parking brake while in neutral my truck wont go back meaning the pads are not cooked?

Any thoughts or pics on how your cable looks like or how it should be ?

I don't know the spec, but when I hook mine back up after re-installing the rear diff, I will adjust the cable somewhere between not sagging and not pulling the brake lever.

Do you know if your cable sits just below the frame of the truck?

About 16 months ago I noticed my cable sagging. It looked exactly like OP's photos. I took up some slack with the adjuster on the cable. No issues arose and the parking brake works fine. I was even **** and tested on a slight grade after the procedure to insure that the truck would roll freely in neutral.

When the cable sags on these trucks it means the mecanisim inside the drum needs to be freed up they dont return all the way. hence why when you hit the levers back the cable is good Its a common issue you will need to take the drum off and you will see it spray some pb blaster on it and move it back and fourth a bunch of times.

Here's one;
I noticed you have the cable adjustment all the way up, that tells me you have a different problem. You may need to pull the wheels and rotor and see what is happening in there. Possibly a simple starwheel adjustment, but shoes could be shot too.

Mine is the same, haven't looked at it yet. Going to be doing the rear brakes soon, I'll check it out then.
