2012 1500 5.7 P0456 Code . How long do I have to wait before I can do a emission retest... Is it time or miles? Mechanic said he did a smoke test and detected none. Changed an esim and purge valve on suspicion. also I had previously change out the gas cap with Mopar oem. He did a reset that cleared the light.

When I had to have my 14 reset after battery disconnection prior to inspection had to drive about 50 miles.

A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve ( ESIM ), The EVAP Canister may be leaking

If your mechanic cleared the code

The system MAY be fixed, but it takes driving to allow the computer to accept that.

Doing the driving is called a Drive Cycle

Chrysler Drive Cycle

this worked for me, but my engine Light was ON, i had not cleared the code

1. Ensure that the fuel tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full.
2. Start cold (below 86°F /30°C) and warm up until engine coolant temperature is at least 160° F (typically requires at least one minute; up to 3 minutes).
3. Accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for five minutes.
4. Decelerate without using the brake (coast down) to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.
5. Restart and accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for two minutes.
6. Decelerate with using the brake [or the clutch!] by coasting down to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.

I did not do it exactly as written,
but it worked.
I then drove to a big auto parts store & requested that their scan tool to check my Ram for codes
