Having some random oil leaks on my 05 2500 with the Hemi. Has anyone had theirs rebuilt? Trying to get a ballpark at what to expect price wise.

Are you gonna do the work or have a shop do it? How much oil are you losing also? Taking the motor out is the tricky part, the rebuild is the easy part.

It will vary on how much you are going to do vs what you pay the shop to do. Ex: if you remove the motor save about 6-8 hours of labor, at 100 dollars an hour, well you can see. I and just one of my friends pulled and install a rebuilt spare motor i had laying in my garage in a day and a half not to hard if you know what you are doing.

I am going to check my level today and see how much I'm actually losing. It's leaking from a few different places. I want to upgrade the cam anyways so I figured it could all be done at the same time. It's got 135k which isn't bad, but I'm sure it'd like a little bore and some fresh internals, gaskets, etc. just trying to decide how much I'm really prepared to dump into my rig.

Not to mention I was going to do a lot of maintenance to it anyway. All of which would be easier with the engine out.

Whats your current list of mods on the truck because if your thinking or going cammed your gonna need the supporting mods to.

K&N intake, flowmaster exhaust and diablosports in-tune. Goin to have the heads worked and a larger throttle body before rebuild time.

Plus possible header upgrade. Looking for a set of Srt-8 manifolds actually. Heard they flow much much better than factory hemis.

There is fittament issues with the srt manifolds, being your a 2500 only thing you will find off the self will be shorties. We tried what your talking about on Richards 04 2500 when he punched out the block to a 370" to help move the exhaust (had a stock set of 6.1 jeep manifolds there) but were a ton of issues and went back to the stockers and never installed the shorties because the truck was sold. On the heads the price has come down on a good set of big valve heads so might be worth buying a built set. What is your normal work load for the truck?

135,000 honestly isn't all that much. There are cammed hemis in 1500's running fast with over 200K. Mine is a shade over 120,000. SRT manifolds won't work on a 3rd gen, you'd have to go with some form of shorty header for a bolt in. The SRT GC manifolds are different and will work in 4th gen trucks. Replacing some seals when you upgrade the cam and springs would minimize the down time. Your choice of course.

At 85k mine still runs like new literally...i plan on getting 300k Before ripping it apart..at 135k you're just broken in. Modern engines last a long long time .unless you're burning oil...I'd just freshen it with new gaskets and put you're mods on and go
