Engine seems to have limited power @ 60mph and vibrates

Developed a problem.

No CEL, but my scanner shows a pending code of P1411 - drive train failure.

Happened after I made a left turn off of a freeway onto a country road. Truck accelerated just fine until it hit 60 and then it was like hitting a brick wall - no more accelerating. Truck started vibrating like crazy as soon as I let off the gas. Pulled over, shut it off, restarted it and it was good for a few miles then it started acting like it had a speed limiter of 60mph and would shake and shudder at light throttle conditions, almost like a timing issue.


Just googling the p1411 code, looks like all the possibilities of this problem suck - everything from a failed MDS solenoid to broken valve springs or collapsed MDS lifters...

Looking at the extended EVIC screen, the oil pressure was normal, but the oil temp might have been a little high at about 205°.

After I got home, I parked it and went in to research the code while eating dinner - I will go out and inspect it after I eat, to let it cool down some. Anyone think at this point it's still safe to drive it?

11s were known to have failed lifters. i wouldnt drive it at all till i knew waht was wrong.

I will be following this to see what problem you have ! BUT if it were me I would Not drive it till I talked to a mechanic, I am sure on of the gear heads will chime in with info that will really help ! But from what little I know about engines it sounds like it is going into limp mode ! Goes into limp mode when there are certain problems and it is trying to prevent damage ! Please post what you find out !

I'm on the chopping block at work - if I **** the boss off for any reason, I'm done, and we're BUSY at work (no time off, but not OT). The car is useless this time of year, just sits and spins the tires on the pavement as soon as I let off the brakes. No rental places around here for 20 miles... Guess I'm going to have to risk my life in the car in the morning and have the truck towed to the dealer.

No, I know limp mode - this is NOT limp mode. This is something deeper. :(

The car is useless this time of year, just sits and spins the tires on the pavement as soon as I let off the brakes. No rental places around here for 20 miles... Guess I'm going to have to risk my life in the car in the morning and have the truck towed to the dealer.
Does your dealer have a loaner? Enterprise Car rental will pick you up in most states

My closest dealership is 35 miles away and the service department closed 55 minutes ago. Enterprise is 45 miles the OTHER direction and the call I put into them, all they have are compact cars. I do NOT fit into a compact car.

Well, the Charger is running. Started hard after sitting a few months. Only issue is, its in "storage" insurance and the insurance company closed about the same time as the dealership service dept. And they don't open until AFTER I'm at work, so I'll have to drive with no insurance to work. In a car that only likes to play on warm, dry pavement - in the middle of winter a day after an ice storm...

The truck has been towed to the dealership, just waiting to hear back from them, most likely tomorrow some time. This is a dealership I absolutely trust - only issue I've had from them is when I had the gas tank on the Charger replaced, the tech that parked the car parked it with the front bumper over the curb, which caused damage - they fixed the damage and fired the tech.

The truck has been towed to the dealership, just waiting to hear back from them, most likely tomorrow some time. Well, sounds like it's going to sit for a few days - they are booked until late Monday/early Tuesday...

Damn man that really sucks. Hopefully its a MDS solenoid and not lifters. I would think if it were lifters there would be misfire codes...

Quick update - they narrowed it down to a failed MDS solenoid. Part is on order and they expect to have it done and ready to be picked up Monday afternoon.

And, the truck still has a powertrain warranty active on it, that I did not know about, so no cost to me!!!
