Engine swap

Ok I need help. I got a 96 dodge ram 3500 dually 5 speed 4x4 v10 I want to swap the engine for a cummins but Im not sure what I need, can anyone tell me what engine, comp etc. i was told that tranny is the same on the v10 and almost everything else.

Why would you want to do that? The V10 is plenty. I friend has one just like yours and he tows a 3 car hauler with it no problem.

My experience with Cummins is that they're loud, expensive to fix, and not fun to tow with due to the fact that they'll rattle your teeth out.

You'd probably be better off selling the whole truck and buying a new one with the cummins.

Okay for a swap the best engine is a 1st gen cummins 12 valve out of a 1st gen pickup. The reason being they don't need a computer or intercooler. if you get a late 12 valve or any 24 valve you will need computer, intercooler, it's wise to swap gauges beacause the tach won't be right for gas vs diesel. other than that you're radiator and all that will work. Can't guarantee that the transmissions are the same but they should be. I all honesty you're better off to buy a cummins pickup and sell your other one but if you're determined to swap, this should give you a little bit of an idea on some of your questions
