My 2019 1500 5.7 won't shut down. Parked at my local hardware store, and hit the start/top button to shut it down, and it kept running. Drove it home, still has the same problem. It's not dieseling, just continues to run not matter how I push on the start/stop button. Tried pushing it in gear, neutral, park, drive, etc., but it doesn't quit running. Everything else seems to be working just fine. Radio, wipers, lights, air, etc. work fine. No nav system, so there's no 15 minute shut down option (I read about that somewhere). I've never run into something like this. It's sitting in my driveway right now, running. How do I get it to shut off without damaging the computer? Pull the negative cable? Pull some fuse? Anybody ever run into this problem?

look for the fuse that feeds the fuel pump, once the engine stalls the pull the negative battery

(Slap to the forehead) Will do. I'm hoping that disconnecting the battery afterwards while everything is on won't cause any other gremlins.

Has anyone else run into this problem? I suspect the switch itself, but it could be something else. Even though it's still under warranty, I hate having to take it into my less-than-average dealer for the fix.

If it should happen again
the knee panel under the steering column is held on by 2 screws
pull that panel
Look to the right behind the ignition
The wires going to the ignition are at the back of it
A little lever has to be pushed

On a 5TH Gen Ram, it may be simpler

Watch this video, no tools needed

By the way
If you own a 2019 Ram & you need or want to disconnect the Negative post on your battery.
When it is time to reconnect it, you may notice that your radio, heated seats & steering wheel, etc. don't function properly.

Everything will reset itself, it may take over night, but it will reset

Man, working under the dash was never this easy before. Having had to work on older dash designs, this was a piece of cake. Even though there's a lot of things under there that you can cut yourself on, reaching the ignition switch was as easy as the video shows. Got a new switch at the local DRJF dealer this morning. Got it on in about 5 minutes, no tools. Hooked up the battery, and ta-da! - it works just like it's supposed to. If you're doing this for the first time, keep your hand toward the right (near the center dash) and work your way up to the switch.
Thanks, GTyankee, for pointing me in the right direction.

I am sending this post to as many forums as I can because I really hope people get this message. I seemed to have fixed my issue regarding my 2013 5.7 1500 not shutting off. The problem for me was that when I tried to turn the engine off, I got a message that said that the vehicle was not in park, although it was (console shifter). I took apart the console and inspected all of the mechanical components and all seemed in good working order, so I thought it was an electrical issue. So, I turned on the engine, pulled the 20 AMP ECM fuse, and the engine stopped. I reinserted the same fuse, started the truck and pressed the stop button, and it stopped. I repeated this step 5 times and it worked every time. This repair sounds kinda cheesy, and it may mean more issues with the ECM itself, but what can I say, it is working. I will get a new fuse, for sure. Please try this hack before taking to a dealership. My mechanic buddy will weigh in on this fix when he returns my message but I didn't want to waste time in telling people about this.

OK, here is an update on my fix post. I drove the truck around the block, tried turning it off, and it did not turn off. &#&*%$^@(&$W. But when I opened the drivers side door and pressed the button, it turned off. This is a massive improvement over before when it would take 15 minutes before it would allow me to turn it off. I will replace the fuse anyway, but I think it could be the door sensor. The message Vehicle Not In Park comes on if it senses the door is open. So that message really is hinting at another problem not necessarily related to the shifter or transmission. If the fuse replacement does not fix the problem, I will tackle changing the driver door actuator so see if that does anything. BUT, I am happy that it is working BETTER than before. I will carry a needle nose plier with me from now on in case I need to pull that fuse again as a last resort.

Ok here is another update on my comic-relief fix posts. I have not replaced the door actuator / sensor thing yet. I thought I would try to start the truck with the remote. I had to take apart the remote to use the start button because it had seemed to wear down over time. Started fine and then I pressed it again and it shut off. This only worked twice. Then, with the vehicle off I disconnected battery and yanked the ECM fuse and left it out for a minute. Reinserted and reconnected the battery. That seemed to have worked. So now, if I start the truck and turn it off while in park, it will turn off but only if I hold the fob right close to the start stop button. BUT if I turn it on, shift to reverse and then to Park, the Vehicle Not In Park message comes on and it won't shut off on the first try even with holding the fob close the start stop button. But I try a few seconds later, and it shuts off. So I am less inclined to think it is a door switch issue. Is it the fob? Start stop button? Brake switch? Transmission position sensor switch? I think I will take a look at the latter and see what happens. ANY input and/or laughter at my plight is more than welcome.

Having the same problem here. 2020 RAM 1500 e-torque limited wouldn't turn off last night. Tried key fob, didn't do anything. After 10 minutes or so I was able to get it to shut off using the start/stop button. I happened to have the driver's door open at the time but I had tried opening the door and pressing the button multiple times to no effect. This morning I woke up and the truck was dead. I think the battery is completely dead now...going to recharge it but I'm guessing I'll just be back to the "won't turn off" problem again. Any updates @luckydiyer?

I'm going to try the ECM fuse "fix" next...

OP's issue was the pushbutton start/stop switch. They're cheap and easy to replace.
